Heres the thing.Im a really spiritual person. I like to think about myself, about who I am, what makes me, what my reactions to things are and why. This mainly started when I started smoking marijuana and then went full bloom when I first experienced mushrooms. Almost everytime I do mushrooms now, it betters me as a person. Anyway. I feel connected to nature and living creatures on the planet. Not in some corny way but just in that we all live on this planet together so we are basically the same. I really want to make a vow to never kill anything on purpose, Ever. I dont think that this is wierd however I know my friends would make fun of me if I refused to kill a fly or something. It is already mentally painful to kill something like a fly, but I do it anyway to rid myself of a pest as you could say. Im begining to see pests less and less as pests like most people do, but just as a fellow creature who isnt hurting me. Why should I hurt it because I regard it as a pest. What are your thoughts on this.

Killing things
-
don't worry i feel the same way about killing things except when i use like a minnow or something else as fishing bait or,of course, meat (food) but then again i;m not killing the animal. i remember a mouse got into a glue trap at my house...man i started cryin like a baby and tried to get it out of there without killing it. since i was doing it as gentle as possible it took me like an hour...
-
sure man,i understand,my brother kills nothing living.i sure wish he'd atleast kill mosquitos,i mean those things were made to be killed, they're real pests, same goes for any parasite that lives off your blood, like fleas, ticks, etc.haha, thats my opinion though.my brother disagrees.i think it's your choice and if you're happy withit thats great.
-
im the same way and people make fun of me for it too. i dont care tho, no matter how small or ugly it is its still a life and it should be respected. i mean really is an ant realy doing anything wrong walking across the sidewalk? or a fly flying around the room? seriously its not gonna eat your eyes out. sorry for blabbing lol

In reply to: What are your thoughts on this. animals eat other animals.its part of nature.. without it there would be nothing.so how can you be so close to nature if you are going against the cycle of nature?like im asking this honestly, not trying to provoke you, i'm quite interested in this, but the above just came to mind and i would like to know what you think of it...
-
i dont think people eat the bugs they kill
-
I'm 100% fine with killing in order to survive. Ie. Eating something. What I was refering to was something that wasn't doing anything wrong, and just killing it just because. Wow I thought I was like one of the only people who thought this way. Amazing.I wrote this post on here not too sure if I should have cause I thought I would just have ppl makin fun of me. Also didnt expect it to be on the top when I came back from a break from the board.
-
you shouldn't be afraid to ask about anything on here...thus the name and reason for this board
-
i'm not really up for that sorta stuff... i really dont think i have any sympathetic feelings for anything other than a dog, or a human... when i was little i used to pry off the legs of every ant i could capture... used to do it with flys and misquitos... sometime i will take some legs off and their wings and watch them crawl on the window sill.now adays i just play baseball with them with a newspaper and the fly is the ball... its lotsa fun
-
ohh ok, so chibishmoo, you mean thats its wrong to kill something just because. like duck hunting? or something?your first post talks about killing flies etc, so i thought you would say its wrong to eat any animal too? but you say its ok to eat to survive, so does that include us humans eating chicken for dinner etc?i mean i think duck hunting is wrong.. but rabbit hunting on farms where rabbits are plaguing their fields... i dont see a problem with thatwhat do u think of that?but how many ppl kill things just because?lots of people kill spiders, flies, insects,,, but thats about it right?
-
I dont know, once you start getting into areas like that it starts getting grey. There are many ways to rid areas of a pest other than killing them. I'm trying to make it simple and just think about what I personally am doing. As long as I am not killing them, my consience is clear. It would be great if we could stop it all together but that is just unrealistic. How could you do that to things? Do you just not think about their pain? Its sadistic what you are talking about. That is why I believe humans would go to hell if I believed in a hell. Thats just sick. To willingly make something suffer for your own enjoyment. I believe that that is one of the tests placed upon your soul on this world. Maybe I should start a religious thread and talk about what I believe in :P All my threads are popular and controversial, haha I love it.
-
some people are just sadists at heart though. and are fine with being that way. just the same way some people respect all life and get laughed at (though less people laugh at sadists, they tend to be people you dont want to piss off)its not really a subject of controversy, i can understand why you would wish to follow this particular tenet, but no way in hell that i could. im not saying that i go out of my way to hurt animals (human beings on the other hand, but thats another topic) but i dont particualrly shed tears when a car im in hits a rabbit and suchlike

In reply to:
How could you do that to things? Do you just not think about their pain?
to what exactly are you referring to?
squashing a bug thats in your house? squashing a spider?
if you walk into a spiders nest, what would they do to you?
if you enter a great white sharks territory, what do they do?
if you go into a wolfs den, what do they do?
i'm think they get deffensive and they would be hostile to you, and try to inflict pain, just as humans do to animals that get in their territory. In reply to:
Do you just not think about their pain?
not many animals care about your pain
most care only for their own survivalam i saying that what other animals do justifys our action?
no, because i don't believe that
a cat will play with a mouse and scare it to death, i think thats wrong. why? because we are smarter than themehh i guess it comes down to my religious beliefs too
so what i've just posted here is not an attack on your stance on this, but just some inconclusive thoughts of mine
-
lol it sounded like you figured things out as you wrote it.
-
its how most people post. to not rethink what you are typing at the minute would be the height of foolishness, as it could be that one minute of reflection where you suddenly realise taht you are talking a whole load of waffle
-
in hong kong they kill chickens snakes frogs and all sorts of animals that are edible right on the streets and some people just stand there and watch and not get anything... i guess thats what you mean by humans enjoying another things pain...
-
In reply to: lol it sounded like you figured things out as you wrote it. yeh i'll buy that In reply to: in hong kong they kill chickens snakes frogs and all sorts of animals that are edible right on the streets and some people just stand there and watch and not get anything... i guess thats what you mean by humans enjoying another things pain... do you really think that the people 'enjoy' watching the animals die? i think they enjoy eating the animal rather than watching it die...

Chibishmoo, this is a topic that we both agree on. While I don't feel the same way due to marijuana usage, I don't enjoy harming another creature purposely. Although I don't have a set religion, I consider myself pretty spiritual and believe that everything has a spirit. I don't think that all animals have "feelings" persay, as the word feeling is used to describe human emotions, but I do think that purposely harming another creature without the intention of survival will bring back major karma against you. I guess its the three-fold law, anything you do to someone comes back to you three times as strong. In reply to:squashing a bug thats in your house? squashing a spider? Yup, even something as small as a spider. While it may seem insignificant, I really think that it has an impact if it was intentional. I mean if you're walking and accidently step on one, its not the same situation anymore. In reply to:if you walk into a spiders nest, what would they do to you? What are you talking about? You can't walk into a spider's nest, as spiders normally don't have nests. They bundle their eggs into a huge spider silk sac thats near their web if that is what you mean. And again, if its intentional, then its wrong. Accidental, then its different. In reply to:if you enter a great white sharks territory, what do they do? Okay, first of all, who in their right minds would waltz into a cold ocean with a great white? But in the RARE case that that would happen, heres the deal. More than likely, the shark would bite the person. Not because it is trying to harm the person, but because, well, thats how sharks "test" a creature. They take a bite to see if its edible or whatnot, and if not, they swim away. Its not like jaws where a shark would deliberately harm a person. Besides, most shark attacks have a very simple explanation: mistaken identity. Most of the attacked people wore dark colors and used swim floatation devices or surfboards, thus making them look to a hungry great white or other shark as a seal or other prey.In reply to:if you go into a wolfs den, what do they do?i'm think they get deffensive and they would be hostile to you, and try to inflict pain, just as humans do to animals that get in their territory This is a VERY poor example. Entering a wolf den would trigger the maternal and paternal instincts of the wolf, therefore making it aggressive only to defend its young. Otherwise, it wouldn't care if you were there. Secondly, animals rarely care if animals of a different species subside within their territory, as they each live in different parts of the same environment and utilize a certain aspect of it. The main reason why animals run away and/or become aggressive in the presence of a human is due to millions of years of evolution, where man has hunted animal and the animal has adapted and learned that if the animal in front of them is walking on two legs, its no good. And lastly, the whole human territory thing is incorrect. Most people kill animals or shoo them away because they get annoyed by them, not because of a maternal or paternal instinct. It is MUCH MUCH different than entering a wolf's den, as most people just hate animals to begin with and don't want to be bothered by them.

First of all, I wasn't attacking your reply, nor was I implying that you were attacking. As I was reading, I noticed some of the questions listed in your post and decided to answer them. You really need to stop viewing everything as a direct attack, as this is a discussion, and I'm not out to destroy your psyche. Now grab a glass of water and breathe.
