Well, I haven't bothered to even get my permit (I'm a senior currently) yet because my best friend lives a few door and so he always picks me up/drops me off since we go to the same school. But I'm going to start doing things outside of the regular schedule so I want to drive.I heard that there was a thing your parents could sign during your permit that says something like if your at least 16 years old, and you have driven at least 25 hours, and having your parents sign it would allow you to take the driver's test.True?

Anyone know?

Not me. I was 19 when I got mine....none of that mattered.

It's different between each state/province and there's even more variation between countries so it's hard to say. Here, there's a graduated driver's license system where you get a learner's as young as 14 with a written test, and then you wait 2 years, or 1 year if you get it at 15+ to take the driver's test which is practical. That gets you a license with some restrictions like 0 alcohol level rather than 0.8% or whatever it is and fewer demerits. After two years of being a GDL driver you can get your full license, although in most cases there really isn't much difference. The thing here that probably applies there is you need to have parental consent if you are under the age of 18. Also, the driving experience is recommended to be 60 hours for taking the driver's test here I believe, although I took my driver's test with about ~20-25 hours and passed first try.

I don't think that would fly in CaLIFORNIA.

I have a 13 yr old....I am SCARED of California law!!!!Next year she affects my insurance! And she isn't old enough for a license!Who can I move in with? lolLike I said, I avoided all that, so did my bro, but we grew up in a TINY town. Driving was, well moot, because everything was so close.

At least through my carrier, 14yr olds I guess are more likely to steal the cars, and lots of parents start teaching around here at that age. (me included). At least that is what my agent told me.When I get a new car, she is getting this one to drive around the ranch, and to the bus stop. No public roads, but you know.

Interesting. I'm guessing you live in the farm country in the San Joaquin valley?
