Howdy peeps, time to blow a couple of things out of the water here... Well, none of you yet know this, (obviously, you're about to find out lol) but, I'm from England, and, I went out with a German for 3 and a half years, I know a fair few people who're married to germans, and are english, one of my friends even has French ancestory (puh puh! lol) so, as for Europe not marrying between countries... that's bs... oh, and, for the record... the German I went out with was Half Italian... mom German, dad Italian, so, that blows the one about strictness out of the window too... now, as I know this is mainly about religion, let me just put this together for you:
Dad = Catholic (very! as in: doesn't even swear... ever!)
Mom = Protostant (very!)
Me = Church of England - A made up Church, by one of our former kings, so he could divorce his wife (Henry VIII in case anyone missed my subtlety there :wink: lol) which is a protostant religion too, but, evidently, not the same as my mom's!!
I went to a C of E school, learnt all about the bible etc etc, learnt my dad's way, learnt my mom's way, and have found my own way...
Anyway, just wanted to point out that as Europeans (well, I'm English... not even European! pah!) we're not segmented, just because we have our own nationatlities, doesn't make us all seperate, (though, very proud of our individual nationalities) we're all people after all!! Religion doesn't come into it for us, anymore than it does for anyone in the world that has the freedom to decide for themselves who they want to love
Oh, and, scarred for life as I am for knowing this, but, my dad might be a good catholic for all intents and purposes, but, he too at least sees sense in that he uses protection! (I didn't get a Birth Certificate, my parents got an apology letter from Durex) ... The bible was written in a time where protection was pretty much impossible, by the hands of man, trying to prevent pregnacy outside of marriage, where there is no way to support the baby, as women didn't work then, it's all about interpretation... which is why I'm none practicing when it comes to religion... I believe in God, but, I don't see why I should devote my time to something that is as corrupt as Al Capone, and, that has been proven time and again! And that doesn't just go for catholosism... (crusades) it goes for any of them, mine (made up church, to suite the purposes of a king) even looking at muslims now... how corrupted have the words of "the lord" (whatever you want to call him/her/it) been to suit purposes of "holy war" on the western countries?
Anyway, meandering off topic again there, so, back to it... If you took into consideration how things would be written differently in the bible if it were written today, then, I think you will find your own answers to whether catholics would use protection or be with someone other than their religion... if you think about it, the bible, realistically, is the basis for all of our laws, and, over time, laws change and evolve to suite the times
Hence, if I were to interpret it, it would be different to everyone elses interpretation, as we all have different points of view
Oh, and, for the record... My evil ex from Deutschland was a staunch catholic (her dad was a "preacher" or whatever they call them in Germany) and, well, how can I put this without seeming impolite... well... lets just put it like this, she was hardly innocent :wink: lol, and, by damn, we used protection... last thing I needed was a childsized german invasion force on my hands!!! lol, and, last I heard of her (we don't speak... my other threads explain that) she was dating a Muslim!!! lol ... oh what a good little catholic she isn't :wink: lol
And, one final note... current lady = methodist, I think, I'll have to check with her again, cause, I'm not the only one not much up on religion :wink: lol but anyway, so many differnt churches and what not, who knows what's right and wrong, we can only make a moral judgement based on our own circumstances, in my humble opinion anyway :smile:
Anyhoo, enough of my gibber jabber for now at least :wink:
