It sounds like a boil (a bacterial infection in the skin, sort of like a very bad pimple).

okay...I'm at college, so..

Most colleges have a student health center available for minor medical needs. Have you tried there?

well that's kind of an embarrassing deal...is there nothing i can do on my own?

Whatever you discuss with a doctor or anyone at the clinic is held in strict confidence, if you're in the U.S. No one outside of the clinic will find out anything unless you tell them, and no one inside the clinic cares a whit about you and your condttion, except as a medical case. The doctor will be able to figure out what it really is. As non-medical people who can't see you in person, all we can do is guess. Once they figure out what it is, they can give you thre appropriate antibiotic, if indicated.

I guess it's a choice to make: which is worse, the embarassment or the condition. As Steve stated, you are nothing more than a medical case to a medical professional. They have seen private parts before and are bound by ethical and legal restrictions from discussing your case with others without your permission. Suck it up and go!

Hey Dude….I know they can be very painful. Especially when your pants rub in between your legs... Most of the time, they can get really large about the size of a pencil eraser. I think it's from your legs rubbing together causing an ingrown hair follicle to fester. If in fact you don't want to see the doctor on campus, my suggestion is to do this. You’ll need to get a few items. First don't try top pop it or it could and will get more infected. Take a small amount of hand sanitizer gel or rubbing alcohol and rub the area clean. Then you need to use a small water proof bandage and put it over the bump and leave the bandage on until it goes down. It takes about 4-5 day for the area to subside. . I like the Nexcare bandages because they seal well and stay on for several days without falling off. .It has worked for me on the few occasions when I had that problem. On a final note. I suggest that when you want to remove the bandage, do it in the shower and soap that area up well as you remove it. The band aids adhere to you’re skin well and they can be painful when you remove them from such a sensitive area.Good luckBand-Aids:http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Nexcare/Home/Products/Bandages/Waterproof/
