World health org plans mass circumcisions

Your obsession with this topic is amusing.

I know this is off-topic, but when I clicked on that site, McAfee site advisor gave it a "red" warning because, when they signed up on the site, McAfee claimed the site posted their e-mail address, making it viewable to spammers. Just a little FYI.Hope you didn't sign up. Anyway. You do seemed obsessed with the idea of people being forced to undergo involuntary circumcisions. Why?

In reply to:
The issue was discussed in Jerusalem at the beginning of the week, in a meeting between WHO representatives, 20 Israeli physicians and Jewish and Muslim circumcisers.
I'm sure that was an objective meeting. You should have been there.
The only way to be really safe is to cut off the entire penis. Maybe that will be the next step.
If they start doing more circumcisions in Africa, I hope they use better sterile technique that what's used when female "circumcision" is done, or more people will die than would have died from HIV infection.

He finds a strong bias on this site against circumcision. What I find that people around here actually think are:
o it's better not to have unneccessary surgery
o if the foreskin is tight, it's better to try stretching before having surgery
o if the foreskin won't respond to stretching, or the person who needs to do the stretching can't or won't, or if there is bad phimoosis, then surgery is indicates (as was the case for the OP)
o the foreskin does serve some useful purposes
o if you're making an informed decision about your own body, and you want a circumcision, then by all means go for it.There is definitely a bias in American culture toward circumcision.

What a dumbass idea from a highly biased group...
The LAST thing we need to give males in third-world countries is a foolish belief that they are 100% protected from HIV/AIDs. (And they will believe that, as is human nature)
It is very popular belief in third-world countries in Africa, that having sex with a young girl (A virgin, they hope) means that A) They can't get HIV or AIDs, and B) Having sex with a young girl/virgin actually CURES aids (Which gets part A all messed up, and just helps spread the disease and violent rape)
"You mean if I'm circumsized I can fuck all I want and never get aids? Let's go for it!"
So in total, they want to blow billions to circumsize people; yet these countries don't have medical care, schools, or even enough food.
Also, I love the research group: 20 people who are hard-core supporters of circumsism.
PS. A recent meeting between white supremists indicate that anyone who is not white, 6ft tall, blond with blue eyes; should be erradicated. Not a spot of being biased there either, eh?

There is definitely a tendency for people who have been circumcised, to believe that circumcised is better and to preach this belief.I have no problem with this particular study. Circumcision removes about 2/3 of the skin on the penis (see http://www.foreskin.org/3zones.htm). It removes 'vulnerable' cells (ie, the soft, thin, moist ones) on the inside of the foreskin and it induces the skin on the glans to become much thicker and tougher. This makes the passing of disease via the penis less likely. This is great news.If I was in the poorer regions of Africa, with no access to condoms or medical support, and the government offered to circumcise me for free to reduce my (and my partners) risk from HIV, I think I would probably jump at the offer. Hooray for science! However, I have no such excuse for unsafe sex, so I would rather keep my penis the way nature intended, and use a condom which I can buy 24/7 for a few cents. I like my soft bits, greater surface area and more nerve endings the way they are thank you very much, and as long as they are healthy I choose not to cut them off.I also don't believe that reports such as this should be used to push the agenda of pro-circumcision groups within the 'civilised' world, where condoms are readily available. As others have said, if you are in the fortunate position of being able to virtually eliminate the risk of HIV, your choices are:1. complete removal of the entire penis.2. condoms. The choice is yours.

it dosen't help that a common cultural myth that exists in the region is that sex with a virgin will cure the disease.it makes me rather sad really.
