why is the site doing this?i dont get it when i came back on i had everything than i had to go then i came back on a stuff was gone againsomeone tell me what is going on
-
What is going on
-
that still doesnt tell me what happen
-
Everything that happened over the past 10 days (posts, threads, private messages, rigistrations...) have disappeared.
-
why?
-
We don't know, but I'm guessing some sort of serious crash may have corrupted the database. It's just a guess, though.
-
The site's server crashed a little while ago, and all that data was lost as a result.
-
but why is it doing it now?
-
Having done it before, those posts and PMs and registrations are lost, and probably can't be recovered.
-
that sucks
-
But the old posts came back for a bit late this morning! In fact, I replied to two of them before they went away again.
Someone must have restored the incrementals, or found another more recent full backup, and then undid it, as if the ten-day-old full backup was restored.
-
oh ok so you think someone could have done this?
-
I don't know, but I thing equipment failure is a much more likely possibility. Hard disks don't last forever...they will all fail, given enough time (sometime many years). Or losing power at an inopportune time can cause corruption of the hard disk.
-
They couldn't have been in your cache, Steve?Very odd.
-
could have where the server is lost power?
-
No, they were not in my cache. In any case, I don't think it would have been possible for me to post a reply to a message that was just in my cache. Old posts and PMs (that I haven't looked at in a long time) showed up for a bit.
Can you find out who is administering the server? If you know where it's hosted, you might be able to find a contact, and shoot off an e-mail.
Since the owner doesn't seem to be very involved in the day-to-day running of the site, why doesn't he give you and sdp more authority over it?
-
if the owner is not taking care of the site he should give it to you guys
-
I'm sure the owner is doing the best he can. Also, you have to realize that the owner, just like everyone else, has a life outside this website.
-
Then he should turn over daily management responsibility to the admins. They have no life, and they're frustrated over what's going on with the server.
-
he should do that a some admin dont have lifes and that why they are here
