Hello, allI have been becoming more worried over some health issues which have really getting me scared over the past 2 weeks or so.Let me start from the beginning when I was still a baby I had a heart condition that was what I know it as a hole in the heart which apparently is a common problem with that age group and they heal as they grow up. Well, now on to the more current situation. I have noticed sometimes that my heart feels like it skips a beat every now then and sometimes last a little longer than just a second. Almost like what I guess a irregular heart beat would feel like. The heart thing has been going on for quite a while I just chucked it up to too much sugar and caffeine, but now it is coming around the same time if not a little more often (even though I have slowed to stop drinking cokes and coffee. I never was much of a candy eater.) The thing that has really got me to thinking about my health is every now and then when I stand up I feel weak, and the most alarming thing is my vision will some times narrow/ shrink to the point that the is a ring of blackness with just a smaller potion that I can see and that is not too focused, before it would sometimes blur but never for long.Yes, I know I should see a doctor about this but, I want to know some possible causes for it first and this is the only place I know of that could get me some links to find out what is going on with me.Thanks in advance and sorry for the poor sentence structure.

The standing up thing isn't necessarily a sign of anything other than low blood pressure (generally a good thing, so long as it's not ridiculously low). I get light headed all the time when I jump up from laying lazily on the couch (to the point where I've fallen down from disorientation a few times). Now the rest is more serious. It's not up to us to diagnose you and you should really get checked out by a doctor. It sounds like it could be a heart murmur: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/dci/Diseases/heartmurmur/hmurmur_what.htmlMy cousin had a fairly serious murmur and needed an operation done on his heart. It could be fairly serious, especially given your history. It's definitely worth getting checked out.

In and of itself, not serious. Stand up more slowly.I'm not sure what the heartbeat skipping thing is all about.I would guess none of this has anything to do with a murmur, but my guess about things like this is worth very little.Do you have an atrial septal defect? I was not aware that they could fix themselves. I thought they might not cause symptoms if they're not big, but that they just stay there. Here's an interesting article on the subject from eight years ago. Are you being followed by a doctor for your heart issue? I would think they'd want to periodically do an imaging study to make sure the hole is not growing in size.

Thanks, for your input Rob and Steve. All, I know about the heart condition was that it was something I was born with and that they usually close on their own. I do remember a follow-up check on the condition when I was around 5 I think, and it was a good report. From what I remember I would have to say it sounds like VSD , but then I don't really know enough to say for sure. When go for my yearly physical I will bring up that my heart has been beating different and go from there.I am glad to hear the other is most likely low blood pressure. I will check my blood pressure tonight. I take it the vision distortion (that is the thing got me scared) is also caused by low blood pressure? Thanks

Yes. As far as the implications of VSD versus ASD are concerned, that's beyond me. You certainly should describe your issues to the doctor at your checkup.
