I have been using the fairly new drug Chantix to stop smoking. It's working great, I've stopped smoking and have 5 more days on the drug. My question is how long this drug takes to leave your system? I want to become pregnant asap, that's why I chose to quit smoking. However it's a class C drug so I want to be sure it's completely safe before I start trying to conceive. Any info as to how long I should wait after my final dose? Thanks.

Any drug should have an insert describing the drug and it's side effects. Do you still have it? You should read it and/or ask your doctor.

What should I discuss with my health care provider before taking Chantix? Before using Chantix, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease.FDA pregnancy category C. This medication may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether Chantix passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Do not give this medicine to anyone younger than 18 years old. http://www.drugs.com/chantix.htmlLike I said.. you need to talk to your doctor first.

Yes, I've read the insert, many times. It says the the half-life of this drug is 24 hours. Does this mean after my last dose, my body will be rid of it after 24 hours? I have no intention of getting pregnant until I'm sure the drug is out of my system. I only have 5 more days left on it, so I'm just trying to find out how soon I can conceive? Oh, and I will definitely not be breastfeeding, nor will I be taking Chantix again.

Does this mean after my last dose, my body will be rid of it after 24 hours? No, it means that half is gone in 24 hours, and half of what's left is gone the next day, then half of that is gone the following day. In other words, on the third day, there should be 1/8 left. That's what half-life means. In reality, there will be some point where there is so little left in your body that it will have no effect.I assume a health care practitioner prescribed the Chantix. You need to check with that person regarding when it would be safe to get pregnant. Would you really trust the advice of non-medical people you don't even know, on some message board, for something this important?I presume a doctor prescribed the drug. You
