Chalkboard PENISES
-
only in America can a teacher be fired for dicussing anatomy in health class.
I'm surprised that the population isn't declining in the USA concidering the prevailing fear of sex within the culture. -
Oh god, what an overreaction! What happened to the good old days when you could beat the kids and parents didn't care...

Well it says that he made them do it at the start of the class. He was probably doing it to later dismiss any misconceptions that the kids probably had.Quote:...and if you think about all the poorly drawn erect dicks scratched in to bathroom stalls all over the world...Thats probably what most of the kids drew, and it was this distorted image that he was trying to get out of their heads.
-
that's pretty much what I figured he was up to. It may be unorthodox but I'd like to hear his side of the story.
-
I think there was some overreaction in this situation, but having kids draw genitalia on the chalkboard is a going a bit too far.
-
You have to understand that, in the U.S., seventh graders don't have genitals, and it must have been shocking and confusing for the students to do what they were told. They were probably drawing pictures of airplanes and cigars and all manner of cylindrical objects. What if the teacher has asked the students to draw pictures of female genitalia?
-
Drawing a penis on the board can be considered art!And the teacher was teaching, he was teaching health! Its just his methods that people are questioning. People overreact, especially in the absence of all the facts. What everyone hears is that this guy made kids draws dick on a board at the beginning of class. What we don't hear are his reasonings behind it, or what happened during the rest of the class. I have no doubt in my mind how this whole thing started. One of those kids came home and their mommy asked "What did you do in school today?" "Well mommy, Mr.X asked me to draw a penis on the chalkboard today." And without hearing any more, that parent was on the phone to the school and other parents creating as big a fuss as she possibley could!

A teacher is suppose to teach the youth math, reading, writing, and art.No history? No political science? No wonder we keep fighting the same war over and over. How about teaching health? And sex education? There seems to be some good evidence that more sex and health education leads to fewer unwanted teen pregnancies (and STDs).
-
good god Steve, get off your high horse! Why on earth would you expect children to be taught things that might result in a social consious?!Next you'll be campagning to make America into some kind of free country or something.
-
At least one parent said he did not believe the material was inappropriate. "This is biology, it's anatomy, it's human sexuality," said Jon Klibonoff, who has a child at the school but not in the class. "They're in puberty. They're aware of it on one level or another." I agree with this parent; the whole thing was blown out of proportion. Hell, if we had more teachers willing to step up and actaully teach our kids about thier bodies and sexuality and the consequences and responsibilities that come with sex then maybe we'd have fewer teenage pregnancies and spread of stds.
-
I think a lot of shit on this board stands as testament to the fact that we need a few more chalkboard penises. Especially considering the plethora of shit that's just basic questions.America, land of the prude, home of the judgemental reactionary.

Quote:if we had more teachers willing to step up and actaully teach our kids about thier bodies and sexuality and the consequences and responsibilities that come with sex then maybe we'd have fewer teenage pregnancies and spread of stds. That is in fact how it works in a lot of other countries, where sex education is started early enough to be relevant, and the teen pregnancy rate is lower than it is in the U.S.The religious right won't listen. They just have their hands over their ears and repeat "Abstinence! Abstinence!", even though that approach has been demonstrated not to work.
-
Although I agree that abstinence would be better to practice, we all know that doesn't always happen. I think that not only teachers but parents as well should step up to the plate and take charge and teach our 'children' that even though we'd like them to wait for as long as possible, we know there could be times they'd be swept away in the heat of the moment and things can happen and if that does take place then they should be prepared.
-
The kids who post to A2A are not a scientific sampling, but if they are any indication, neither the schools nor the parents are teaching their children much of anything about human sexuality, or birth control. Many think that teaching about birth control encourages kids to have sex. You could show them stacks of data from floor to ceiling that they're wrong, and they'll just tell that that that's impossible, and thrust a bible in your face.
-
"...that even though we'd like them to wait for as long as possible..."As I've said many times in this forum, I don't agree with that. I for one see nothing to be gained by waiting beyond the point that you can handle the possible ramifications of having sex. For most that would functionally put sex off for a while. But waiting for "the one" I fail to understand. If your in a loving relationship and can handle what a possible pregnancy can do to your life, I say fuck. Hell, even if your not in a loving relationship and you both want to fuck, I say fuck as long as you both understand that. I just hope parents or school have equipped you with the knowledge of how to do it safely and responsibly. Are you saying to wait for "the one"? I personally think that kind of attitude is repressed and is something that can often be regretted later in life. A lot of idealists like to use the idea of "waiting for the one" as a substitute for sexual education in families and in schools.Around here sex ed seems to have been reduced to waiting for the one. I think that does a disservice to young people on so many levels. Not only does it short change them on knowledge of their own bodies and the basic workings of sexuality but for those that buy into it, not that many (judging by Okla. teen birth rate), they miss out on a lot of sexual exploration in youth even when off in college.I think that kind of repressed antiquated mentality needs to be done away with.I realize this post is rather disjointed and probably hard to read but I was writing it while going back and forth doing other shit. Sorry.

When I was in school I drew counteless math problems, labeled diagrams of various frog parts and worm parts and body parts on the black board. I even drew several penis on the black board, normally over the teachers chair pointing down on them with crude shit written next to them in hopes that they would walk in the class and miss it and sit down under it all unaware that it was there. It worked 80% of the time.If its OK to get up and draw various other things onthe chalk board in front of the class for math and english and chemistry and any other class why not a dick in health? I have kids that age in school, I wouldnt be bothered inteh slightest by them being explosed to it. I signed the papers allowing them to be taught sex ed in school. Its the same as any other subject. Its presented in a clinical manner, not laughing and joking about pee pees and cunny holes. its not a sex class, its a sex ed class.
-
I think that kind of repressed antiquated mentality needs to be done away with. What you say is at odds with a lot of people's religious beliefs.
-
And your point is?My ideas and opinions are no less valid than somebodies beliefs and, more often then not, have a greater basis in reality, at least I think.I say fuck them and their beliefs. Kid's should hear both sides and make up their own minds, it is their life after all....Oh dear, I sound rather hostile today.
