So, I just got home from my first ever audition for a play going on at my school. At first, I thought it went quite well. They asked for my name, I made a small joke, then told them my name. Then they told me that I had to either sing, dance, or tell a joke. I can't sing or dance at all, so I told them a joke, and they erupted. So I thought I was doing good for my first audition ever. Then I had to read from a monologue that they had handed to me. I read from it, tried my best to "lift the words off the page" as my drama teacher says. After I read my lines, they tell me a few things."try some actions next time" (hand actions, movement)"read it just a little bit slower, and it'll be awesome""make a little bit more eye contact"So, they told me to read it again. Now I'm thinking, ok, slower and eye contact...got it. The hand actions, not so much. I'm describing a party and how my dad bought me a new sweater, how am I supposed to make any interesting movements!? So I read slower, make more eye contact (which contributed to reading it slower, doing appropriate pauses etc). I even tried to make some gestures that fit the script. Now for the bad part.I was on my last line which was "Tonight I was going to ask Kathy to dance." Right when I started this line, they said, ok that's good. Told me that they would have the list posted on so and so, and that callbacks were on Thursday. They needed 19 guys for the part. There were 8-9 today and 9 the day before. This means that I think that I am going to get a part, but if they were to make any cuts, I started to think that I was going to be the first guy cut, because they cut me off and didn't let me finish. I found this odd, because, in drama class I'm doing well,87% in fact. Does the fact that the stopped me mean that they didn't like my audition and that I will be cut? I don't even care if my role isn't major, or anything, I'd just like to be in the play, so if anyone has any past experiences like this and would like to share their words of wisdom to attempt to stop my worrysome nature, please feel free to

Anyone else here act?

doesnt mean shit, you were reading for the second time, they heard ya once already and they sat through how many epople already?they let you nearly finish, they didnt stop ya 10 words in, dont worry about it, wait for thursday, relax. Im no actor, unless you count me acting like I heard what 99% of the dates I had in the past said or that I cared. I had drama in school, it was one of my favorite classes, one of the few I pulled an a in infact.Your over reacting and nervous, fucking stop it !shit happens, the more ya do it the better ya feel while doing it and the less likely you are to fuck it up and feel stupid inteh future, its a matter of getting used to doing it. If they relaly hated ya, they would of told ya so, since they let you read for it twice, Im guessing your over reacting and sweating shit that doesnt matter, I think your fine.

Dontcha hate auditionsBig prob I always have is trying to establish what the director wants(if indeed they know themselves)Best advice I've had is read slow rather than too fastHard when your nervous, I knowDon't worry about silent pausesThey have more dramatic effect than rambling on Good LuckLet us know how you went

Thanks for all of the kind words guys. They let most people read twice, and I'm glad that I read a lot slower, and seemed to correct my mistakes on my second read through. I'll let you all know how I did later.

Alright, so I got 5 seperate callbacks, those went much better I thought, the list is going to be posted soon with what play who is in.

Whats the play?
-
They're all a bunch of one act plays. There was one about various married couples, and their even though they are completely different, they all have similiar problems. There is one that I had a callback for as a murderer, and the sheriff wants to know his real name or something. I only knew about a few of the plays, and what they were actually about, since we only had a 15 minute time slot with each director that wanted to see us. Once I know if I make a play, I will know more about the plot and so on.

im an actor, and u shouldn't be worried AT ALL that they cut you off. That just meanst that they heard all they needed to hear and they didn't need to waste anymore time. I hope you get what part you want, keep us posted.
