Hi, my "soon to be" has thyroid probems, and need to take medication every morning. We want to put her on birth controll, but is worried that it might affect her thyroid. Any ideas ?Also, is there some sort of BC for men ? Side Effects ?

Thyroid and Birth Control

she really needs to talk to her doctor! there may or may not be a negative interaction between thyroid meds and the pill. it is important to ask these questions from a professional!possible interactions:- reduced effectiveness of the thyroid meds- reduced effectiveness of the pill (pregnancy!)i don't KNOW if these are possible, but it would be important to find out.

Hi, we are thinking about consulting a doctor, but wanted to know if somebody else had /has first hand experience with this. My Fiancee told me that when she first recieved treatment for Thyroid that wanted to give her THE PILL, but she refused...

Well you'll have to consult a doctor anyways before you get on the pill. Most likely I wouldn't think it would affect, in some cases it could help. Go ahead and talk to your doctor.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS tell your doc if you're taking thyroid meds! the condom once broke on me, and i went to a clinic to get the morning-after pill, and lied to the doctor, saying that i wasnt on any meds. Well i took the pill and spent the entire night with my head in the toilet and my heart pounding in my eardrums at the speed of light. I know Birth control and the morning after pill are slightly different, but my pill was progesterone, and may BC pills contain the same hormone. Dont make the same mistake i did.
