Just wondering.. I have been trying to lose some weight (about 25lbs of my 145lbs -I'm only 5'2") through exercising, and eating a lower calorie/low fat diet (while getting all of my nutrition requirements with partial help through a multivitamin).. I know the RDA is about 2000-2500 calories to maintain weight, and was eating about 1500 in an attempt to lose some pounds.. On a daily basis I've been exercising about 45 min., drinking a lot of water (prbly about a gallon or two), and eating more filling and/or lower calorie foods about 6 times a day, all being about equal in size. This makes me much less hungry.. Is it safe to consume about 800-1000 calories a day, if I'm meeting all my nutritional goals? I've been averaging that for the past week or so and feel fine, even more energetic if you can believe it, but have only lost about a pound.

Low calories, high nutrients still healthy?

You may well have lost fat, but retained weight because of water. Also fat doesnt have the same ratio as muscle. as you build muscle and lsoe fat your weight may stay the same for a while but youll be losing inches. Dont let the scale be your onlyaid in determining how yuor doing. As to teh rest I dont know ?I always have been lucky enough to eat what I want, and not have ti show on my ass, of course it doesnt show anyplace else either. Iv been a big beer drinker, and eaten alot of food that sure as hell is not considered healthy, cake, tons of bread (see abbi, I have no ass bread doesnt do shit) softdrinks, burgers, any damned thing I want and dont gain any weight.Yo also have to take into consideration your metabolism. Some people have a higher one than others. Its also not healthy to suddenly drop a shitload of weight, a few lbs a week after being a few weks into a program is generally considered a healthy loss. Your body isnt used to this shti yet, its not going to revolt and start eating fat right off the bat, you reduced your intake and upped your exercise but its a shock to your system, it has to be sustained for a bit for it to eventually have the affect of eating its fat stores. Keep it up, give it some time, dont drink too much water, people have died from drinking too much water in too short of times. The mroe you sweat the more water you need, the more active you are the more you need, but there is a limit, listen to your body. If your sweating and hot dont wait to get thirsty to drink water, but dont over do it.

okay.. so i upped my calories to about 1200 today and think i will try and stay around 1500 after reading what you all said... i do a lot of walking throughout the day to and from classes, prbly a good mile or two just getting to and from where i have to park my car.. i just made sure to keep a bottle of water with me all the time because i'm always thirsty.. of course then i pee every 30 minutes.. so i'm drinking that much water because my body seems to need it.. i don't really drink anything unless im thirsty though.. should i still cut back on it?i think my metabolism is on the slow side, so hopefully becomming more active will gradually change that a bit.. also, i'd be fine with getting some muscle and losing fat, as long as i lost inches i don't really care how much i weigh, really. my doctor did say a "healthy range" for me was 115-125.. so that's why i set my goal at 120.. anyone know how soon i should be losing inches? i assume its different for everyone..

How much water would you say you're drinking in a day?

Is it safe to consume about 800-1000 calories a day, if I'm meeting all my nutritional goals? It's much better to meet your nutritional requirements (I'm not sure what you mean by goals; the goal of the cells in your body is to have their requirements met) by eating food, rather than supplements. I'm not sure if it can be done on less than 1000 calories.

If you aren't getting enough calories, your body is going to go into conservation mode, and your metabolism will slow down. Then it's going to be very difficult to lose weight.
