Hello!I'm new so I have a newbie question. I'm trying to link an avatar that is 32 x 29 in size. The problem I'm having is when I link this image, it blows up to 90 x 90 on this site. I take a look around and see other members with avatars less than 90 x 90 in size and it isn't blown up like mine is turning out. Can someone please help? Thanks in advance! ^_^

I think what happens on here is that if you don't have the dimensions the same number, it will make them look distorted. At least that what happened to me. My pictures looked either stretched or smushed or something like that. I would try to find something that has the same dimensions (100x100), for example. My avatar right now is 100x100.

In the older versions of the board avatar dimensions less than 90 pixels weren't expanded, but perhaps this version is different. You could use an image editing program to paste the 32 x 29 avatar onto a 90 x 90 background, save it and use that (hosted on a suitable site).

That's exactly what I was thinking. I know that a while ago this site had server problems and other difficulties, so some things were changed. I also did what you suggested but I finally decided just to make a 90 x 90 avatar just to make my life easier, lol.Thank you for your replies Ineligible and CBW. ^_^

My avatar is 90x67, and it works fine. It may be that, if you have an image smaller than 90x90, one of the dimensions still has to be 90.The image is actually rendered by your Web browser, using HTML directives (normally) so it knows what to do. I'm not sure what the deal is with the code this site puts out.By the way, Virtual, I have to squint to read your small purple font. It doesn't have good contrast on a white background.

Your Web site is hostile to old people. Ineligible, you're really old...what do you think?
-
I can read it without squinting, but my accomodation is getting worse. It happened immediately after I got my new glasses and said I didn't need bifocals because I was having no trouble at all - it happened remarkably quickly.Squinting works because it reduces the eye aperture, therefore suggesting you have a focusing problem, Steve.

I agree that the font is a bit small but the contrast is so-so to me.. However, I didn't bother reading a couple of Katie_Lou's posts... where she has the same/similar font but it's PINK and light blue.. Tiny pink letters on a white background? SKIP.

Hey guys, thanks for your input about my typing. I totally forgot that I'm not the only one who can read this without going blind. I'll make my font bigger and the color darker.Does this help? Sorry about that.

MUCH better.

> quinting works because it reduces the eye aperture
Yes, pinhole cameras and such.
> you have a focusing problem
What's amazing is how quickly I'm turning into my father, though with more hair and less weight. Just recently I started having to hold things further away from my eyes in order to focus on them.
I am now migrating to the Apple Safari browser, which uses different fonts. I also had the Firefox browser on the PC that I was using set to display things bigger. Also, when people use weird text colors, on the PC I could highlight the text and usually make it readable, if it was worth the trouble. The Apple highlights things more elegantly, leaving the text color the same, but changing the text background subtly, which makes it even less readable.
Colored text is fine for titles and such, but it's very annoying to read a block of colored text on a white background.

I just realized that the Mac displays lighter, more pastel colors, which give less contrast. Playing with style sheets and browser settings will probably help. I just threw in the towel and made text larger.Virtual_Star, you don't have to make your text bigger than the default size, but light colored text on a white background is hard to read. Do you prefer form over function?Edit: I'm playing around with a dark background, and now Katie Lou's font is readable, but Virtual_Star's and Angel's are practically invisible. I'm not crazy about the sans serif font that the site now uses.

That's something I just discovered myself today. At school, they have Macs and when I came on this site (using Safari), the colors look more soft and the background is a bit more brighter. At home, I use a PC and Internet Explorer and now I see the text is much more sharper. And for the background of this site, what I see is an off-white color. For me, since it's not a bright white, I don't have a problem reading dark-colored text.I changed my light color to the darkest shade, hoping it would help in some way. But I also played with my screen's brightness and contrast and it make a difference in reading the text.Add:I'm sticking to Times New Roman at 8pt size though. I pray that's okay because I realized that the previous post I made looks way different that how I saw it on the other computer at school. I'm going to use a common font that should be on every computer (I hope). I throw in the towel on this small issue. I also learned that Macs and PCs varies the size of the text, which is why I guess the "Make text larger" and "Make text smaller" options exists.

off topic - your avatar made me smile

And your post made smile. Everybody wins!

You have a pretty avatar and a pretty font.I'm so bland and plain.
-
But now that I have a dark background, I can easily read unadulterated font like yours. Hers is virtually invisible.
-
woo hoo!! dances LOL

Using the dark background motif (darkish grey on the forum entries) that I'm now using, your font is close to invisible. Virtual_Star's font is very close to invisible. Safari doesn't seem to give you the ability to override background colors the way Firefox does. So, your sig is easy to read, but the message is not. I'll assume all of your posts are about pot roast. What is the gain of messing with your font color? Is everyone trying to stand out? If everyone had a different font color, the forum listings would look pretty bad, and long posts in weird colors (mainly, colors that don't contrast well with the background) are not worth the trouble to read.
