In Bakersfield, CA... Christian pediatrician denies child service because parents are tattooed The physician, Dr. Gary Merrill of Christian Medical Services, refused to treat the child because he didn't like the fact that her mother had a tattoo, and he wants to maintian a "Christian atmosphere" in his practice. The young girl went home with her ear infection untreated.

Pediatrican doesn't like mom's tattoo
-
Im a doctor, Im here to help, I specalized in children because they are so innocent and not yet jaded and Ill provide the best care tha.... you have a tattoo? Fuck you get yuor kid out of here you piece of shit ! What a good fucking guy.
-
The AMA defends this guy by saying that he has the right to deal with who he wants, like the owner of a store. Aside from the Hypocratic Oath, I think there is a statute in California that disallows medical pratcitioners (or at least doctors) from discriminating against who they will treat, based on race, religion, political affiliation, or appearance.
-
I wouldnt even give a shit if he treated teh child and said in teh future....instad the asshole let the child suffer because he didnt like his mothers ink.
-
Leviticus again. I'll bet he eats shellfish, and wears mixed-fiber garments.
-
sometime we must abuse children to be the best Chrisians we can be (just ask Father Michael Wempe)
-
" I think there is a statute in California that disallows medical pratcitioners (or at least doctors) from discriminating against who they will treat, based on race, religion, political affiliation, or appearance."Well there is in Australia fortunatelyBut with the rapid growth of the christian right here, it's hard to say for how much longer
-
As for the Christian right, you have a lot of catching up to do, but your prime minister is a curiosity. He seems not too have any compunction about criticizing our non-right-wing presidential candidates.
-
That's just a bunch of crap! Again it's what gives us Christians a bad name.I think what kills me is what's so unholy about tattoos?? My pastor growing up had several, granted he was s truck driver before he was a pastor, but still he liked his tattoos. Just so silly in my book.
-
and you know the irony is that if someone came in wearing a headscarf or turban they couldnt be denied treatment or there would be a media circus. fuckin ridiculous.
-
I think what kills me is what's so unholy about tattoos??Leviticus 19:28 (NASB version): "'You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD."People pull what they like out of the Old Testament. It's the same reason that that doctor is undoubtedly intolerant toward homosexuals. I don't think they'd be any better for his "Christian atmosphere" than a tattooed biker would be.Christians get to jettison the Old Testament, sort of, but this does not reflect well on the fundamentalist Jews, who think it is the word of God, to be interpreted as a collection of rules.
-
Quote:and you know the irony is that if someone came in wearing a headscarf or turban they couldnt be denied treatment or there would be a media circus. fuckin ridiculous. So the media gives a pass to a Christian who discriminates against people? Or are you saying that a tattoo is not a religious symbol? Or what?As far as I know, they are all disallowed under California law.
-
Cuts in your body for the dead? What the fuck does that mean?I was considering having some scarification done, but its not for te dead, does that count against me, am I not going to heaven now?FUck it, Im already covered in ink, I suppose Im doomed to burn anyways, fuck it, scarification it is, or branding? Im deciding between the two, maybe I shoudl go with both.Seriously though, what the hell is cutting on your body for the dead?
-
Well, you are definitely going to hell, so I wouldn't worry about it.But apparently people way back would cut themselves ritually, or tattoo themselves in memory of a dead person, or some such thing. Jews rend their clothing when mourning the dead.As in lots of other ancient scriptural writing, what it means requires a deep understanding of the culture and the language at the some, something that some translation of scripture clearly lacks. Everyone has a different idea what it means. It's like watching the clouds go by, and deciding what the shapes represent.I wonder why God couldn't transcend the ambiguity of language, if he inspired that stuff?
-
Quote:I wonder why God couldn't transcend the ambiguity of language, if he inspired that stuff?I think this is the same question as the whole Problem of Pain - i.e., why did not God simply cancel the Fall.

In my current mood and because I have the computers volume turned to 100% with the song on, I think its lyrics belong here, and nearly everywhere on this site.I want my money backI want my money backIts all or nothingAnd nothings all I ever getEvery time I turn it onI burn it up and burn it outIts always somethingTheres always something going wrongThats the only guaranteeThats what this is all aboutIts a never ending attackEverythings a lie, and thats a factLife is a lemon and I want my money back! And all the moronsAnd all the stooges with their coinsTheyre the ones who make the rulesIts not a game - its just a routTheres desperationTheres desperation in the airIt leaves a stain on all your clothesAnd no detergant gets it outAnd were always slipping through the the cracksThen the movies over - fade to blackLife is a lemon and I want my money back!I want my money backI want my money backWhat about love? Its defective! Its always breaking in halfWhat about sex? !Its defective! Its never built to really lastWhat about your family? Its defective! All the batteries are shotWhat about your friends? Theyre defective! All the parts are out of stockWhat about hope? Its defective! Its corroded and decayedWhat about faith? Its defective! Its tattered and its frayedWhat about your gods? Theyre defective! They forgot the warrantyWhat about your town? Its defective! Its a dead end street to meWhat about your school? Its defective! Its a pack of useless liesWhat about your work? Its defective! Its a crock and then you dieWhat about your childhood? Its defective! Its dead and buried in the pastWhat about your future? Its defective! And you can shove it up your ass!!I want my money backI want my money backIts all or nothingAnd nothings all I ever getEvery time I turn it onI burn it up and burn it outIts a never ending attackEverythings a lie, and thats a factLife is a lemon and I want my money back! And were always slipping through the the cracksThen the movies over-fade to blackLife is a lemon and I want my money back! Its meatloaf, he did so much that applies to life, how many people are married because of the same story told in paradise by the dashboard lights? how many relationships are just like 2 out of 3 aint bad?Life is a lemon is one of my favorites, it matches my current mood and the louder I turn it the better it sounds.

one of my best guy friends (Spanish) from my church had 5 tattoos before he got saved. the day he got saved was when his sister-in-law and I dragged him to youth night instead of hanging out with his "homies" and that night one of his friends died in a shoot out. of course he was devastated it still tears him apart because that could have been him. after he did get saved he left the gang, stopped the drugs, and gave all his guns to the cops. he got 3 MORE tattoos lol one that has his name, another that has HARLEM on it with some other logo and now he's got MI PAPI for My Father. I was like... that's nice but you're still not supposed to scar up your body like that LOL. don't think he cares that much though.
-
> you're still not supposed to scar up your body like that
Why? According to Leviticus? Didn't Jesus & co. make those old rules of God non-operational?
-

This reminds me of that book.
-
Yes, in middle school....I'll have to review the Cliff's notes. I wish I had 1/1000 the talent of Steinbeck.
