I am really tired of teachers in health class and all that other crap trying to keep us from doing drugs. i mean telling us one time and letting us know EXACTLY what it does is enough. im gonna do whatever i wana do. i smoke drink and use to smoke weed but we have piss tests at work now so ya.... i mean really whats the big deal. my dads a pot head and slcholic and we are a very wealthy family. i mean i know how far to go with it and its not like i am adicted to anything. i do it just to have a good time and relax so i mean whats the big deal?

Is it really that bad?

Often anti-drugs teachers do their cause a disservice by lack of honesty or fairness, so they lose credibility. It would be far better to give the facts.A problem with many addictions, though, is that they are insidious - they creep up unnoticed. Very few regular tobacco smokers can give up easily. A lot of teen smokers say they can give it up any time, and believe it - until they try to give it up. And this is a drug that has only very moderate psychoactivity and terrible effects on health.Alcoholism seems to depend on your genetic brain biochemistry. People's reaction to alcohol varies a lot. Some, like me, will get progressively drunk but with no euphoric (good feeling) sensations at all. We will never be alcoholics. On the other end of the scale, there are people who get a 'rush' with alcohol - they are at extreme risk of alcoholism. If your father is an alcoholic, you are at higher risk. A little alcohol is probably good for you, but too much damages the brain frontal lobes, responsible especially for planning. This shows up later in life - it happened to my father-in-law.There have been suggestions that the addictiveness of other drugs is also related to genetics, perhaps the same genetics. In general, fast-acting drugs like crystal meth or crack are especially addictive. I've never heard anyone who was on either of these do anything but regret the day he/she first tried it.

The idea that they're trying to do is: A) Remind you of the issues surrounding drug/alcohol abuse, and B) Working on the principal that if they tell you something enough you'll internalize it (Failing to realize that most internalized lessons are learned from parents, of which you have a negative influence) An addiction is when you cannot function or do certain things WITHOUT the use of drugs/alcohol. If you go to a party and ALWAYS light up/snort/get hammered...then that is a problem. What does being in a wealthy family have to do with addictions? Your father gets drunk off of Guinness and Grey Goose instead of Pabst blue label and Smirnoff? Smokes the nuggets instead of stems and leaves? He is still a pothead, and alcoholic, regardless of apparent social class. (your words, btw)Lastly, with your job; they are evaluating your judgment and legal compliance. If you're smoking pot (or doing any drugs), you've probably broken the law. Thus, from an employers standpoint; you have poor judgment skills, are impulsive, and do not have respect for authority. (That's some scary shit to an employer) to them, that pretty much means you are unreliable, and cannot be trusted.

Guinness is a wealthy man's drink?

Guinness > PabstExpensive > Cheap

Quote:i do it just to have a good time and relax so i mean whats the big deal? This statement bothers me. So you can't genuinely function without being under the inlfuence? I don't understand. It sounds like your dad has glamorized being drunk and high. The fact that your dad is an alcoholic, a pothead, and wealthy maybe he's not genuinely functioning. I wonder how great he is when he's stone cold sober and maybe the difference between the two is what makes it really sad. I don't think it's all that great.

As to the urine test.. its not just a test to see if your not breaking the law.. its "are they gunna get busted by the cops at some random time and we won't know why he isn't in on our busist night of the week causing us to loose money"As to "is it really that bad" I myself am something of a goodie goodie >.< I personally think if it the law says to do it.. its usually better not to do it.. regardless of why. (then again who doesn't have a few minor offences under their belt xD)But, as to the health impact Umm you know what an actual addiction is right? In chemistry an addiction is anything your body needs to get by. Technically your addicted to water.Addicted is usually just thrown out because it has a more negative connotation then "this guy has bad habits"How true is it what drugs can do to you? I can't say I know alot of crackheads who seem fine to me.. People have never smoked and still died of cancer.Does the propaganda overblow the issue? yeah. definitly.Does that mean its good for you? probably not.

I was just making a statement, as far as beer PRICES go (All opinions on taste aside) Guinness seems to be higher priced than most.
-
It still is a test of breaking the law (although it's also motivated exactly by what you said, they don't want you missing work because you're stoned or in jail. The water comment is illogical; addiction refers to negative or unnecessary behaviour that interferes with your ability to continue a normal life."Bad habits" are one thing, I agree; picking your nose in public is a bad habit, having to snort a line of coke before you go to school is an example of an addiction.People dying from cancer who never smoked (I would assume you're talking about lung cancer) is a whole different topic that will start me into a second-hand smoking rant...

If good sir alec was around to read that he would slap the shit out of you calling his stout a fucking beer.bah!

They dont want you missing work period, but that not why the drug testing.as an employer they care because it drives up insurance. Not your medical fuck the emloyee let them pay for it insurance, the insurace for at work injury, the lost time accidents, the lawsuites over an innocent suing because of something an employee did while stoned on the job.Like everything else in life, they care about anything because of th bottom line, not because they give a shit about you. Besides drug testing is an often cheap adn easy way to get rid of a shitty employee. What fucking blows me away is that yesterday I was working on a deck in town, and this mexican kid (I say kid but he was easy 25 to 30 years old) and asked me for a job and the fuckhead was drunk as shit when he walked up. I could smell a mobile brewery before I heard him over th saw trying to get my attention.First dont go ask fora job drunk off your ass and reekign of booze, second why the fuck would you bother someone using a power saw concentrating on what they were doing rather than wait 40 seconds for them to get done and put down the fucking saw?I dont employee people, I simply have no need of employees till I step up my license after june to a general and start bidding and subbing out th work instead of doing it all myself but if I did, I wouldnt hire that fuckhead period.Keep in mind this was like 9 am before I came home to eat breakfast and check email like I normally do about 10 am since I often work till dark to complete contracts. And after I told him I wasnt hiring he wanted to bullshit ? asking stupid questions trying to get on my good side like that made a difference ?Before when I had my previous general license I hired and fired people all the time. I never drug tested, I didnt care, unless they were fucked up at work. what they did on thier own time is thier own time and none of my business but if they were injured or fucked up at work you could gurnatee Id pay that fee to have a piss test. I also used drug tests to get rid of employees that didnt do anythign firable, but were general fuck ups and their record at work made them a liability. You can lay off at anytime, but then you cant hire a replacement the next day, find a reason to fire them, no worries legally.

I am 19 and trying to quit smoking. i started when i was 14 and now i am finding it incredibly hard to stop. As the case with many addictions you dont realize that your addicted until its too late. I wish i never even started smoking.

i hate it when teachers say "its okay to say no. it will be hard"

i think that if u have a good time and it doesn't worsen ur life style then ur good.

I have personal issues with smoking, many of them coming from visits to hospice houses and seeing all the people dying there because smoking damaged their lungs... And that's all I'm going to say about it.
