I've got the Contraceptive pill but when am I supposed to start taking it? I haven't taken any yet. Is it the first day after my period finishes? Or the first day of my period...? I'll go and read the leaflet later, I can;t be bothered with moving right now, but any help?

The pill

They are easiest to keep track of if you start on a Sunday. Start taking it, on the first Sunday AFTER your period starts.I do want to know though, if you can't be bothered by moving to read your pamphlet, are you gonna want to be bothered by taking a pill every day?

Yeah, I will. I was thinking about this.I need to make it a part of my daily routine, I don't want to miss any pills and get pregnant, it would be the owrst thing that could happen to me. A way of remembering it I was thinking would be to set an alarm on my phone so I'd take it at the same time each day.I went to the clinic and the nurse said I couldn;t start the pill til after my next period. She was short on time, so I couldn't really ask her anything. Do you know why that is?Also, I just can't be bothered right now with getting it because me period doesnlt start for ages, and its upstairs lol

My period was so irregular (it would go from every two months, to once a month, to twice in one month etc) that I started in the middle of my cycle. Nothing bad happened. I think it's a matter of the effectiveness and not throwing off your cycle etc. I wasn't having sex when I first started though (we didn't have sex until around a month after), so it didn't matter. As far as remembering, I highly reccomend the cell phone alarm. It works great for me. I know when I first started I didn't take it on time (there was like 2-5 hours difference sometimes), I didn't get pregnant etc. But I realized it was safer to take it the same time every day. Now right when I wake up, I take my pill. I normally get up the same time every day, because my phone alarm goes off. Or I wake up for a few seconds drink the water swallow the pill and go back to sleep.

The alarm on the phone is a great technique, I have a large group of female friends who have set their alarms to the same time so when they're together they all go off at once. It was funny for the first few days but got kinda boring...

Okay, so I read the leaflet. It said if you want the pill to take effect straight away, take it withing the first 5 days of your period. I'm going to take mine the first day of my period. Thanks for all the help!

Alot(some) of pills start their packages with the first day on a Sunday. Often the doctor may tell you to start your package the first Sunday after your period. If it's more than 5 days after the start of your period, then they say to use condoms until you have completed one package.

Yeah..I want mine to work straight away so I want to take it the first day of my period. My nurse said that I could just start on whatever day and just follow it around as all the pills have the day beside them. Also, I went and got the pill after my period finished, and she told me not to start the pill until my next period. She didn't really explain herself very well though.
