i'm just curious after reading some replies in the tan line thread... tanning, swimming, yard work, just anything that you do outside during the summer. How do you do outside things (like swimming / beach)if your so afraid of getting skin cancer or something from the sun? (for u that think u'll get something) btw.. if any one has any stitistics i'd like to see. tanning guide site

Out in the sun

I'm not going to pull up links as proof becasue it's been well established that exposure to sun has been linked to skin cancer. That doesn't mean that it's going to stop people, including me becasue I tan very easily. I do believe that the key factor in reducing the risk is avoiding burning becasue that causes the most damage.Well, I'll give you a link anyways... http://www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/diseases/skin_cancer.htmlUltraviolet radiation from sunlight affects everybody's skin to some extent, but the skin's response varies widely from person to person. Peoples' sensitivity to the sun varies according to the amount of pigment in the skin and the skin's ability to tan........ The risk of skin cancer from the sun generally follows the same pattern. Darker skinned people have lower risk of sun-induced skin cancer. The person most prone to skin cancer caused by sunlight tans poorly and suffers sunburn easily. Frequent and/or intense sunburn in children with fair skin and freckles has been linked to malignant melanoma later in life.

maybe i nbeed to edit.. i didn't mean u had too. i found (i think) a pretty good place with alot of articles and stuff on it. i know you can get skin cancer from tanning but.... i mean is there like a place (site) that gives numbers are like precents.i dk.. i guess i'm courious on why some people are scared of the sun....tanning.

thanks dude.

Normal exposure, doing day to day things is fine. But sitting there TRYING to tan to me, is one of the most idiotic "In" Things to do.
-
well not necessarily idiotic. its up to them, just like most things bad for us like smoking and drugs. its not the smartest thing to do, but if they want to risk it, go ahead.
-
yea well... i wish i had never posted anything.. i have a gut feeling this is going to turn into another stupid fussing crap post and it's not really worth it. IF i could delete the whole stupid thing i would.
-
So your saying because someone chooses to smoke ciggarettes, that choice isn't idiotic?I'm not calling them stupid, the choice that they made is.
-
That's your opinion.. I sit in a office all day and don't even see the sun.. I'll take my idiotic decision and go to the beach and lay out for a couple of hours on the weekend. I'm good with that.Caleb, quit second guessing yourself... your thread if fine.. Don't get worked up over it.
-
ok...i'll try. i do get worked up over some really small things.. i need to change that. see i'll start workign on it now...i'm proud to say i am a tan blond hot ass idiot. < that don't sound to good.
-
There you go.. And I'm a tan 44 yr old idiotic fat-ass!!!! <<< Now doesn't THAT sound good???

Originally Posted By: sdpThere you go.. And I'm a tan 44 yr old idiotic fat-ass!!!! ROFL!But I hear ya sdp. I sit in an office all day long so I don't get a chance to be outside and get the "occassional" sun. So like this past weekend I got a chance to be outside and lay in my mother's pool, which now I'm slighty red today but it'll tan within the next 2-3 days.Plus I like to have a little color to me... besides pasty white.
-
im not sayin it isnt idiotic. but it is THEIR choice.either way, they can do whatever. personally i dont want to be pale anymore. i want some color, so im gonna be tanning soon. and i cant wait.
-
I love to be outside. I sit in an office all day too. Plus, stupid butt-town Ohio only gets like 2 months of summer and 10 months of winter anyway. So, I like to enjoy it while I can. My kids also enjoy playing outside and in the kiddie pool. Far better for them to be outside rather than inside watching TV don't ya think? Anyway, I just slather them up with sunblock...SPF 45 or something. Works great! My poor grandmother, who worked on a farm most of her life did end up getting a couple skin cancer spots that had to be removed a couple years ago. But they didn't have sunblock back then.
-
Oh good so we agree, it is idiotic, and it's also their choice.
When did I say it wasn't your choice to go damage your skin?
-
right on then.
either way im done with these threads.i know about skin cancer. my grandmother had it. im wearing protectant and i only bought 11\. so its not very much. i love getting tanned, it makes me feel like i look half decent. -
So do you wear clothing that covers you from neck to toe and wear a sombrero to shield your face?
-
Like I said, daily activities and things are great, especially for vitamine D, and I'm not as pale as jack white, but intentionaly damaging your skin (IE Tanning) is very stupid to me.
-
If you are roasting yourself like beef jerky all the time, then yes, you are right, but I do think you are a bit overzealous with the whole cancer/damage thing becasue someone goes out and tans a bit.
