I am 17 years old. I was previously mere acquaintances with this girl. Now we have gotten a little closer, and I have a big crush on her, more than I have really felt before. I have only slight indications that my feelings are reciprocated, and I'm thinking I may be just inventing them.I have subtly flirted, but I have trouble "flipping the switch" from friends to more than that. How could I best signal my intentions?Would it be frowned upon to speak to a mutual friend about it? I don't want to act "middle school," but I am pretty shy, and just unsure of exactly what to do.I am a little nervous about being too crazily upfront. I tried in the past and ended up pretty embarrassed realizing how much I misread things.

Well you could go through the middle friend, but doing it yourself would make good practise for future encounters where you won't have anyone else to rely on.

I personally think going threw the middle friend is a reallly bad idea. I think in general girls are more impressed by someone who has the nerve to talk himself. And as you said.. practice is a good thing.. Even if he gets rejected.. then at least if he gets rejected later on.. he can handle it better.I'd recommend just flat out askin her to do something. "hey lets go ice skating!"Edit* come up with your own idea.. just an example.
