Afterlife... I regard it as being something my mind is unable to comprehend and I don't concern myself with it much anymore.I do hope that there is an afterlife and it's much like being on Earth.

Afterlife/death

Quote:anyone who believes in heaven/hell and or an afterlife care to comment on what they believe the afterlife is like? Lol, well HelmsmaN kinda stole my thunder a tad bit. I wasn't going to get into this conversation since some people said some things I agreed with. But I finally decided to pitch in and share my opinion. Why? Because I'm bored. I don't believe in the Heaven and the Hell that I grew up learning about. I grew up catholic and was taught that Heaven is a paradise and Hell is a place where we'll be punished for eternity. And here's the reason why:Heaven:A place where good people go to live in paradise with God. A place where there is no pain or fear or sadness. But wouldn't that get boring fast? We would live for eternity in peace, but how would we know that if there's no pain in Heaven?Hell:A place where bad people to go suffer for their "sins" with the Devil. I learned that the Devil is evil itself. So, what I don't understand is why would Evil Itself punish bad people? I mean, wouldn't the Devil praise those who did wrong in the world?I guess my point is this: There can be no nothing without something else to balance it out. There's no Heaven without Hell. There's no happiness without sadness. There's no light without darkness. There's no man without women. There's no good without evil. With that in mind, I simply don't believe in an absolute Heaven or Hell. I believe that Heaven and Hell is Earth and in the now. I'm in Heaven when I have a good day at work or school, or when I'm with my boyfriend, or when I have a good meal, or when I have a good laugh. Hell is when I blow a test, or having a bad day, or losing something, or getting pissed for some stupid reason.I also don't believe in an absolute Heaven or Hell because there's no such thing as sinners and saints. Again, you can't have good without evil and vice versa. We all have both good and evil in our hearts. It's what we do that makes us who we are. I've done some stupid shit in the past but I've gotten over that with the things I've accomplished now.So, there's my opinion on Heaven and Hell in a nutshell. If it didn't make sense, oh well! I'm happy. But the afterlife idea? Nah, I don't want to get into that. Who cares, is what I say. I'll worry about that when I die.
-
well why not get into it now because sooner or later we all die
-
You're right, that's why I said I'll worry about that after I die. I'm too busy living my life to worry about something that may or may not exist.
-
Why "get into it now" when there is absolutely NOTHING you can do about it, one way or another?
-
to try and determine what happens, i mean doesnt the thought of it freak you out a bit i mean nothingness, not knowing kinda sucks, id like to know what the afterlife is like, even if it sucks, at least id know
-
You just don't seem to get it.... You CAN'T know. No one knows what happens after you die.
-
i think thats what scares the o.p ...theres no possible way to know.

Quote: No one knows what happens after you die. No one eh?? How about those people who have died.. and then being brought back to life?
-
Speculation... Just becasue your heart stops or your breathing stops does not mean that your brain has completely stopped functioning. There is a certain time before your brain cells die and you are a vegetable where you can be brought back. However, what the brain registered while "dead" is not proof that life exists after death.

My grandpa had a stroke while driving to utah from yuma arizona one spring many years back. he drove all teh way home, collapsed outsid eth car in his driveway and my grandma called the ambulance. he was rushed to the hospital and died the next day.The doctors infomred us he was dead, they had started filling out the death certificate when he started breathing again. He had been dead for about 5 minutes.he woke up a couple days later and wondered hwo in the hell we had all got to his trailer in yuma where they spent te winter months. He had no idea he had ever driven home, no idea he was in utah and that it was a hospital bed. his memory was shit, every time Id see him after being out inteh hall or gone to eat or have a smoke and been gone 10 minutes, sometimes less he was astounded and asked me how Id gotten to yuma. this went on for a few days, his head started clearing and he started remembering things on the drive, passing by landmarks and what not, and he remebered being dead and could hear people yelling and machines beeping and them working on him and then he could remember just the day before he started to come out of it.Not a single memory of being dead, My grandpa was very into god, he lived his entire life a faithful man. he fully belived in heaven and hell and all the words ion the bible and told us if he died then there wasnt shit because hed remember metting his family and god if it had happened.he still thought that the machines simply cut out and didnt pick up his heart and what not rather then that he died. When he did die about 10 years later he clung to that beliefand that of god waiting to take him home and be with his wife and family again, but never saw shit on the other side when he did actually die for all those minutes. How and why he came back to breathing and what not noone can explain, they had stopped working on him for about 2 minutes when he started breathing on his own again, noone had touched him in that time. I have no explanation for it and it doenst make me belive in a god restoring him and making him OK. The point of this story ?I dunno I fucking forgot where I was going with it in the beginning. so lets jsut pretend that the point is that not everyone that dies and comes back has any stories to tell, and that lack of a story is just as telling as all the stories that peole tell that do die and come back.oh, and sex is like chinese food, its not over till you both get your cookies, so yeah.
-
dude, you're so friggin' funny XD
-
aside from the chinese food part that I stole from a movie that I think was called outside providence and was uttered by alec baldwin thats all true, and wasnt meant to be funny so I hope your refering to the words I use and the movie line rather than that I made up the shit about my grandpa as its 100% true, he died for about 5 minutes, we have the death certificate the doc was filling out when he started breathing again.
-
Just because you dont think that its proof doesnt mean that its not.
-
Yeah that's fine. One can believe in it and it doesn't matter what I believe, it's still not proof. It can't be verified..
-
all very interesting, i personally believe that the persons grandfather may have had his heart stop beating, but brain was still functioning therefore only being partially dead. regardless the after life is lifes greatest unknown
