Hello, my GF has been in China for two weeks, and is coming back next week. I have to get her a present/s for when she comes back. What should I get her? I'm not on a tight budget and am willing to pay over $300 for her. Candy is out of the question. She has a ring and necklace so jewlery is out of the question too. We will go out to dinner. There is this old brass instrument that she's always wanted, and I think if I buy it for her, she'll be excited. This would kind of blow my budget, around $700, until I get paid(next week). Maybe the instrument would be better off for her birthday which is in August. Would an IPod do the trick?

Help with buying my GF a gift

If she's coming back home, greet her with some flowers. I personally don't see any reason to blow money over $20 for someone returning home. If you go out to dinner with her, then I think that would be enough. Just spend the day with her. Memories are priceless. But now for the instrument idea. It's nothing new that instruments are expensive. But if you're willing to spend that kind of money on her, get her a brand new instrument. Save your money and find a really good one. I'd much rather save my money for a new flute than an iPod.

I rather like flowers

Is this someone who you plan on marrying or something like that? The amount of money you plan on spending is rather extreme unless you are loaded with money. Anyways... your "budget" is absurd.

Yes, one day we will be married. By budget I meant the money I can spend, and we are both still living at home. Maybe you're right, $300 for an Ipod may be too much, but I did mess up her CD player... At the momment I have saved up money. I hope she won't be dissapointed with flowers

You don't want to give her expectations you may not be able to honour in future. Coming back home isn't a traditional time for lavish gifts.

Give her something that you obviously put a lot of thought and effort into, not something that just cost a lot of money. Only you know what this is because we don't know her.An example would be my girlfriend and her sister would always go on about this (somewhat expensive) coat they wanted. I was with them one day when they were looking at in a catalog, I remember the page, looked up her size (from her other clothes) and bought it for her. She was thrilled. It wasn't overly expensive, but more than she was willing to pay. So it was a nice gift. The bonus was I got in her sisters good books too, which is always a good thing.

Seriously.. sometimes a beautiful bunch of flowers is the best gift a girl can get

Hmmm , wow i haven't been on here for a while but i thought i may be able to add something as a female to aid you. When i was dating this guy instead of buying me flowers and chocolate , which is nice and i love flowers but they die and chocolate , well i am a chocoholic but still its nice to get something more ... original!!So instead every date we would go on he would give me these small hexangonal shaped boxes with something inside that was supposed to symbolise our date i.e. the beach i got a small box and it had some sand in it a shell etc , and on the bottom he would write the date. Now i know it seems sort of sentimental but i have kept them mainly because having something a guy spent time doing for me is far more important than the amount he spent.Well i hope this helps Torie x

If you really want to buy her something, how about a gift box or something? The best gift I ever had off my partner was from Lush (handmade cosmetics / bath and shower smellies!) Lush

Pete, I realized that. Haha. She defiantly meant like flowers. I don't even know why I was thinking that instrument.
