Congress clears historic health care bill "The final obstacle to passage was cleared a few hours before the vote, when Obama and Democratic leaders reached a compromise with anti-abortion lawmakers whose rebellion had left the outcome in doubt. The president issued an executive order pledging that no federal funds would be used for elective abortion, satisfying Rep. Bart Stupak of Michigan and a handful of like-minded lawmakers."Dollars to donuts he's already working on a way around his cough "pledge".

I'm not sure hes actions were even legal at this point. In all actuality, I don't think Stupak cared about provisions against funding abortions at all. I think all he really wanted was a way to vote for the bill and still maintain his moral high ground. He thinks the President gave that to him. I don't think it will end up working out that way for him. He could be a goner.

congratulations from the rest of the developed word!first you abolished slavery, then you let women vote, now this!welcome to the 20th century! throws confetti

Your celebration is premature. Obama has stuck his neck out further than his office allows. Two states have already outright illegalized this entire unconstitutional "bill", with a total of 36 states rejecting at least certain portions of it. Of interest is that Republicans insisted that the vote be taken electrically...that way, there is a record of who voted for the bill. The only thing for certain here is that the Dems will lose seats in the next election, as two out of three Americans did not want the health bill to pass.
-
it may in fact be premature. This initiative has become so politically washed out that it'll probably turn into a big pile of shit before you're done. Then you can pat yourself on the back because you proved it didn't work by breaking it.
Sort of the way a petulant child makes a mess of a job he didn't feel like doing.

OBAMACARE...1. THERE IS NO CRISIS. Thoughts of one are the result of typical propaganda techniques, in which the press all by itself begins airing stories of problems wherever it can find them. They do that partly for their own ends (because of favoring socialism in their hearts to begin with), and partly to provide cover for other liberals (usually Democrats) to then begin initiating legislation. In fact, ALL big socialist programs are installed in such a way, except for the rare occasion there actually is a crisis…but in this case, no. Around the world, as communist leaders enter a new country, they offered “healthcare and fairness”. Witness what happened to eastern European countries at the end of WWII.2. THERE WOULD BE A CRISIS if people were dying in the streets for lack of medical care. We, however, have no lack of medical care. What some experience is a lack of medical insurance. There is a huge difference. Anyone, without insurance, can still go to any hospital in America and receive treatment. While it does not function ideally, there is still no crisis. Saying there is one is a lie. 3. HOW LIBERALS and their friends in the media pull these things off (whether it be healthcare for all or sex education for your children in schools): They find an area in society where a lack of perfection exists. Note that perfection exists nowhere, which means they have a bountiful field to choose from. 4. HEALTHCARE IS A PERFECT CANDIDATE because people can be frightened with colorful and animated images of sick Americans, which is bound to pull sympathy from viewers. If you don't think images on camera elicit sympathy and emotion, just ask yourself why TV and movies are so popular. 5. LIBERAL DEMOCRATS THEN WRITE LEGISLATION calling for money to be taken from taxpayers and given to health clinics, welfare, Medicare, WIC and whatever else. Just for the poor and needy, mind you.6. AS THESE PROGRAMS EXPAND, they begin to influence the free market. Look at it this way: If half of the homes on the street where my (hypothetical) rental house is begin receiving money from the government to pay for the rent of the tenants, pretty soon the landlords are going to refuse to lower rents…they now have a guaranteed bottom provided by Section 8 housing. At first, it only means a person looking for a rental will have a little more difficulty finding anything cheap. But after enough of them are in the market, the accumulated effect of thousands of homes all demanding nothing lower than a certain amount pulls up the price people have to pay everywhere! Competition has thus been stymied. The same thing would occur if the government were paying people to buy televisions…the price would never come down! 7. NOW FOR THE BEST PART: Liberals then start crying on camera because there are no cheap houses for rent. Yet it was the liberal intervention that raised the prices by eliminating the competition to begin with!...after signing up so many people for rental assistance that the market became unbalanced. In the actual rental world, Section 8 (which pays rent for poor people) is not quite that powerful yet, though probably powerful enough to have some impact. Medical assistance, on the other hand, IS that powerful…and has been so for many years. Nearly half the country is on some form of government handout, much of it solely or including medical. 8. LIBERALS AND THEIR ALLIES IN THE PRESS are now jumping up and down to rescue the country from a fake crisis by taking over the entire industry rather than getting their little Marxist hands out of the free market to begin with. And they know precisely what is going on, too. 9. LIBERALS DESTROYED the charity network in America, destroyed public education, are trying to destroy the moral framework of our culture and now seek to take over the single largest economic piece of the country. Afterward, because people are generally lazy and uninformed (though typical to humanity, selfish and greedy), there is no way any politician will be able to take away something that Americans have come to believe is free. And because they have control of the major news and entertainment networks, news of how crappy the program is will never be broadcast. 10. IRONICALLY, we do have something of an actual healthcare problem…that being the fact that government subsidies now influence the market more than basic capitalist principles; much different than a crisis of people supposedly lacking access to medical care. Yet the country has been so filled with lies told over and over that almost nobody even remembers anymore, if they ever knew, that the debate isn't really about what the media is focusing on at the moment. Though it is certainly true that most folks only know what the media tells them to think and know. Before government got involved, we used to have home visits by doctors. Where did those go? They were in the days of competition for customers. Now 50 million people are given government cards to visit the doctor. So medical practitioners just wait in their nice offices for the stream of patients to show up, knowing they won’t have to pay (much) to be seen. Excessive regulation on insurance companies has contributed to an increase in premiums, too. Conservatives have already been singing that song. The one they appear to have never learned is why the issue has even reached the point of a national conversation to begin with. Regulations alone are insufficient to have pushed the price up so high. Removing competition from the industry played the larger role. …and, just for the Christians: Marxism is the Tower of Babel…man's attempt to create paradise on Earth without going through God. That's who the liberals are. They vigorously labor day and night to pass legislation that appears on the surface to stem from compassion (no pain, hunger or unfairness) though resides completely outside the principles of God.Watching them is astonishing, however, because they are audacious enough to claim God (a recent change for them) in the process. They do that the usual way: by using the parts they want to and leaving out the other parts of scripture they don’t. Such as, feeding the poor without mentioning how a man who refuses to work should be allowed to go hungry.
