Here's the disclaimer: please don't yell at me for this, it's an honest question, I'm not trying to be accusational (sp?) here, just curious what conclusions I should draw. The situation: my girlfriend tends to be sort of a bitch when she's having her period. She says so herself, so I don't feel bad using the same term she does. She's easily irritable, and seems spoiled and selfish for this 4-5 days whenever it comes. I grit my teeth and deal with it- it's not that big a deal and there are things in every relationship that you just have to deal with sometimes- if I know somebody's in a bad mood, I try not to get on their case too much for the way they speak or act.However...I feel suspicious that she might be taking advantage of this. That, too, wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, it's certainly no unforgivable atrocity, but I'm sure she'd never own up to it. So here's my question, and it goes out to both females, and those of us that can't-live-with-'em, can't-live-without-'em--- do (some) women (sometimes) use their period as an excuse, so that they can behave, or just be treated, differently?

Period moodswings

I have never used it as an excuse. And when I was on birth control pills, I was a royal bitch. It's something I couldn't control either and alot of the time I felt really bad if I snapped at someone.

Thank you very much for the informative reply

I know several women who do take advantage of that time of the month; hell, they've admited to using it against thier boyfriends just so they can get them to do everything they want. I don't do that, why bring someone else down when I'm feeling like crap? I admit I turn into a complete bitch, and I'll bite someone's head off if they look at me wrong... of course I feel bad about it afterwards and usually end up saying I'm sorry for it.

wow, that is just...despicable, have you said anything to them against this?

Meh (some) women take advantage of anything they can.Its pretty much like giving birth or any other issue. Since males can't actually do it. Women conspire that its the worst thing in the world ultimately for the sake of using it against man.My moms a royal bitch. Anything that happens to her she complains forever about. Root canal. "OMG ITS THE WORST THING EVER".. child birth "OMG I HATE THAT MEN NEVER HAVE TO GO THREW IT" Getting blood taken "I NEARLY PASSED OUT".Then ontop of that my mom tries to act like some sort of badass. Easy to see why I dislike my parents I think xD.Anyway yes some women do take advantage of the issue. However, I have also met some where you really can't tell if they are on it or not.. they tend to always be just mellow. It differs women to women.

I don't get moody when I start, I get sleepy. Last about a day wanting to sleep, then it's all good. That is the only outside indicator of me starting.
My "grouchies" are about a week before hand. A day or two of everything irritating me. I tend to just avoid everyone for those times. It keeps us all happier. Usually my reaction is to just want to bawl. Something I just don't do!!

My advice: stop doing that. Not only you may be adding fuel to the fire, but it just isn't nice.Originally Posted By: cocky727

Yeah, that sounds about right, lol. Another small piece of advice is to give her her own space, so that way, the both of you would be a bit happier. :smile:Originally Posted By: cocky727

Don't know about other ladies, but for me, I HATE it and I would never take advantage of it. I'm a pretty easy-going, patient, and really nice person. But hormones can really turn you into something you ugly. As much as I would love to control my emotions, it's really almost impossible to do.That's why, if I feel a moodswing coming up, I just tell my boyfriend that I'm not feeling right and he'll understand. He knows that if I do lose control and snap at him, it's not the real me talking. And I feel so guilty when that happens. So yeah, I don't like being irritable, so I don't see how I would take advantage of that.

Alright, thank you, i find that quite helpful. As a guy, I don't feel like I have anything comparable, so it's hard for me to understand sort of "losing control" and being...irritable, short-tempered, etc. For me, if I'm in a state where I can say "watch out I might be an asshole for a couple days" then I'm well enough in control of myself and the situation so that I could avoid actually being an asshole. Now that the wonderful ladies of A2A have given me the scoop, I think I can be more honestly accepting of the situation when it arises--instead of doubtfully accepting.

I have never used my period as an excuse to do anything. And I think it's rude of your girlfriend to take advantage like that. You should confront her about that. That's just wrong. I'll admit sometimes periods do get really bad to the point where it feels like you're actually giving birth. I've had those days. But I don't treat my family or friends bad or make them do stuff for me. If anything my mother will make me some tea or my brother will actually leave me alone. But never take advantage. I have gotten away with not washing the dishes before. But certainly not all the time.
