I got my learner's permit 3 months ago. I asked my dad last year, "if I pass my permit test, will you teach me to drive" and he said "of course, sweetie!". Like a wolf in sheep's clothing. It is August 2007! School is very very soon. I don't like taking the subway to school and having to avoid crackheads and police searches. I have been pestering my father for the longest time to teach me how to drive but he keeps coming up with excuses. I've written a reminder on his pancakes in chocolate before he goes to work. I've jumped on his back from the stair railing when he was walking by and pleaded for him to teach me and was dragged all the way to the kitchen before he eventually peeled me off. I even cleaned up the entire house, made dinner, and did his laundry to get his attention. This man is like a robot! He has no feelings! I told him I'd get a tattoo and a belly ring if he didn't teach me and he laughed and turned up the tv. Seriously... I'm losing my mind. Does he not want me to drive or what? I would teach myself, it's not like I haven't driven before but this thing called the law says I have to have an experienced driver with me. lol

He's pissing me of
-
You could tell him you've found a guy from the local bikie gang who has offered to do it.
-
Driving is very easy, getting a parent to "teach you" sometimes isnt. I didnt get my license til i was close to 17, most of my friends got it a few months after they turned 16.
-
Why not just ask your mom? She will be more patient with you when it comes to driving anyway. I found that my dad made me nervous when I drove with him.
-
i'm glade i was driving at 12 lmao..
my brother thought me to drive a stick.i dk... u could try some other things. maybe "forgetting" about it for a 2 or 3 days and then ask him. Maybe he's enjoying the special pancakes and cleaning... maybe pull back on it for a few days and then casually ask him.. dad, do u have time today to drive with me? something like that. if he don't answer u take it as a no.
then i dk.. like Classy was saying... ask some one else.does ur school have a class to learn driving? I know here we do. My sister's even got good deals on their insurance cuz they took the class and they had good grades.

In California, you are required to drive with a certified instructor for, I think 6-8 hrs before you can get your license. There is no requirement that you know how to drive in the first place. I think I paid $250 for my son. However, you are also required to have (I can't remember exactly so I'll just guess) 80 hours behind the wheel experience with an adult. But a driving instructor will be more patient and it will be less stressful than with a parent.

i have a dad like that too. try asking him why he wont teach you or something like that, but if all else fails drag him to the car while he's not too busy. this might not work with all dads though, so if that fails dont blame me
-
yup, as others have said youd probably have better luck with your mom, i had the same kind of shit when i started to drive but with my mom, she was very reluctant to let me drive and when she did she was annoying as fuck, screaming my ear off to stop when the car thats slowing down is hundreds of feet away going 35 to begin with AND theres a perfectly open lane so it wouldnt even matter but my dad encourages me to do things, not illegal things just things my mom would have a heart attack if i tried with herbut if she cant and he wont, than maybe your sister or someone over 21 i think it is

we've agreed that I should be the one to teach her the finer points of sailing and sailboat racing - it's just "better" that way.
...oh sure, I can teach anybody else with ease!
ROTF...I had one or 3 but, um, SHOULDN'T?????
OR is my one or 3 messing with the whole program?
Hugs to the "cheater" SOOO, on that note: Does it make a diff in the thought process too? That is 2x today, I have wondered about you.

No offense to my mother but my dad drives better than mom and she's busier than he is. I barely see her unless it's after 8 or on Sundays at church. I guess because she works in New Jersey and all the classes she's taking. My dad works in New York and he's around more often. I enjoy being with him alot more because he's fun to hang out with and makes me feel more comfortable but for some reason he just refuses to teach me or he's always trying to find a way out. But I'll try your way Caleb. If that doesn't work I'll just ask my brother-in-law or something.

Quote:No offense to my mother but my dad drives better than mom yea but.. it don't matter who drives better. you'll be the one behind the wheel. it's more about who will do it and who has the time. as u said both of them are bussy and ur mom is more bussy....but wut abotu after church sunday with ur mom (or dad)? if ur close with ur bro-in-law i'd say dump ur busy parents and ask him if he'd help/teach u to drive.

You're life must be hell... not being able to have your dad teach you to drive and all.
*rolleyes*
-
spare me your sympathy
-
I never had any sympathy for you. I was being sarcastic and trying to say that... never mind, you wouldn't understand.
-
I was being sarcastic too. I just decided not to add the roll eyes.this: Quote:You're life must be hell... not being able to have your dad teach you to drive and all.rolleyes sounds like the beginning of a needless argument.
-
sounds like the beginning of a needless argument. If that's what you take it as, then of course it could be an argument. Whether I meant for it to be one is a whole nother story
-
so then what was the point of even saying so anyway? you didn't have to say anything at all instead of making it seem like I'm "complaining over nothing."
-
You guys calm down.Abi, if your dad isn't motivated to teach you, then just ask your mom. And if that doesn't help, then ask them to enroll you into a driver's ed course.
-
Jesus Christ, you really are a fucking tool!

I am nice! Just look, I'm protecting a little girl! And I'm not using my hands in the bad way!
