Heya, been a long time since I posted here. So first of all HI EVERYONE! In my first exciting post for returning I thought I would link a very interesting video I watched. Of course all my views are not based around just this video because well... that would just be silly. I have read a few scientific reports too and done some research. Anyway I would just link the videos but it’s just easier to link to a blog I have on it than every video individually.http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=3127065&blogID=299008223You don’t have to read the blog just go straight into the videos. Anyway what’s your opinions on the whole global warming thing? Personally I think its bull shit but there are people who are still skeptical... I don’t really get why though hmm

Global Warming

I think it’s overrated. The Earth has cold and hot eras, and we’re entering a hot one.Now of course it would be damn cool if the air wasn’t polluted, we didn’t chop all the trees and remove jungles and such…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q71cMRGXx9o — I like some of his sentiments about the matter.

unusually cold winters in some areas are a result of global warming.
This is a big picture problem.
As far as the cyclical nature of the Earth's environment, it generally doesn't swing dramatically within a century as it has now.
Of course, George W Bush could be right and the whole issue could be a bunch of hooey palooey raised by them damn oil hatin' commie camel-jockey faggot hippies

I agree with Unsupervised. It's been very, very hot this summer and we had an unusually mild winter. Something's up...Many scientists will tell you that the planet is generally getting hotter and that the glaciers are melting.

How can people say Global Warming is happening? In my opinion, it's not. On the Old Farmers Almanac website, a weather observer from North Carolina researched temperature abnormalies from 1925-1955, and from 1970-2005. After the observation was complete. he noticed that North Carolina's temperatures were warmer from 1925-1955, and cooler from 1970-2005. So yeah, there is no such thing as Global Warming. But even in those areas they may be having warmer winters. For instance if one winter long ago the average temp was -15 degrees but today it's average is -3, that's still an increase in temperature but with snow on the ground it's still a winter. But I'd like to hear more about the study done, do you have a link or anything?

So yeah, there is no such thing as Global Warming. What do you mean there's no such thing as global warming??? That's just dumb. The polar ice caps have been melting and receding. Do you dispute that? The question in the whole "global warming" debate is not whether it is occuring but rather whether it is a natural global cycle or if it's induced by modern human activities.
-
Plus, isn't there footage of ice caps and glaciers falling apart into the ocean?
Or am I just making that up...
-
cbw: Indeed there is. Lots of footage of glacial shearing. But like sdp said, the question is whether or not it's a natural occurrence.
-
welllll, personally I don't believe in global warming and think it's just a bunch of hullaballooloo but I have my reasons.but I do agree that people need to do a better job taking care of this planet.

The polar ice caps are melting, its a fact. Massive chunks are not falling off because they are growing. The increased temperature causes the surface ice to melt and heat up, this warmer water starts to heat up the ice below it and little (sometimes big) tunnels are melted through creating cracks. These cracks weaken the strength of the ice and it starts breaking up and large mounds of ice fall off into the sea. As the ice caps get smaller and thinner, they melt even faster. In Ireland we used to have some damn cold winters, it snowed for days and often it caused some serious problems. My dad has a lot of pictures of some of our winters from the late 70s and a very bad blizzard from 1982 in which the snow was well above the height of the cars. In the past 10 years, it hasn't snowed more than a handful of times and it was never strong. It would last for maybe an hour and melt by the end of the day. Our summers are now scorching hot, our winter season has shifted by a few months and is mainly just cold and wet. We have hurricane-like storms during the summer, the first tornado ever recorded in Ireland touched down last year just a few miles from my house.Global Warming is a fact. Just because you had a delightful summer this year doesn't change the fact that the entire world is having some serious problems."...a single spell of cold weather in one small region is no indication of cooling of the global climate, which refers to a long-term average over the entire planet."Global Defense - Page 6 - Lines 11 to 13

well then why don't you become superman and save the world. I know that comes with one of your features... or... Irishman.... that sounds better. lol

Both off Antarctica and Greenland, areas that have been frozen sea-ice since earliest records are now breaking up and receding. I think it's now impossible to dispute that average global temperatures are increasing. This doesn't mean that all places get equally warmer. In fact, if global warming gets too strong the Gulf Stream could stop flowing and Western Europe could become colder rather than warmer.Although it's true that there are natural cycles, and the Earth has been slowly warming since the Little Ice Age a few centuries ago, the warming in the last decade or two has been much much faster, and it seems more likely to be man-made. We can't keep increasing in number and in energy consumption and deforestation and expect that the planet will handle anything we do with no change.

Yes the world IS getting warmer but this has happened throughout time http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieval_Warm_Period (I know a bad place to link to but I cant be bothered to look for the propper studdy lol, you you get the jist of it anyway)The world may be getting warmer but its not due to any human activity its just the way our planet has always been. Remember before global warming where people thought we were going to enter into a new ice age? Personaly I am not worried about any polar ice caps melting as that is just what happens in naturaly warmer weather. The media likes to make a big hype out of anything, because storys like "YOURE GOING TO DIE" sell pretty well.

Allot of their claims arent really backed up by anything in the report other than their own opinion. They just kind of say this is the myth an this is FACT, then dont back any of these facts up with any links to studdies etc.
