Yes, I admit, I suffer from a minor form of it, kind of anm odd form of multiple personalities. Well, 1 other personality to be precise . Anywho, I'd be interested to hear from others about their cases, and if anyone has any questions, post here or PM me.
-
How many of you have Schitzophrenia?
-
Er, multiple personalities is not a normal symptom of schizophrenia, despite popular myth. In the most common form of schizophrenia people hear voices and have odd thoughts, usually either that they have special powers or that they are being persecuted by people with special powers. There are other forms of schizophrenia, but multiple personalities is different. It used to be called Multiple Personality Disorder, but is now called Dissociative Identity Disorder. It is usually caused by some horrible thing happening in childhood.Perhaps you have some sort of unusual combination?
-
Something that happened in childhood? Wow, I cannot think of any. Are there any other causes that are known?
-
Has the doctor ever diagnosed you? It's very rare...like around 2% of the population?
-
Nope, actually, my family doesn't even know about it. I never told them, I can keep it very much under control.
-
You can't say you have it if you haven't been diagnosed. Most people don't even realize they have it until they're informed by a doctor. And like I said it's so very rare.
-
Well, for me, it's kind of like when you have a migrane, no one else can tell you, you just know, at some point in the future I would like to see a doctor about it, but not anytime in the NEAR future. And I also would not like to be treated for it, it's not dangerous yet nor has it been at any point.
-
you can't diagnose yourself with it
-
Well, no kidding, I'm not a doctor, but I just know I have it, as do a few other friends (trustworthy ones, no doubt)I told. I mean, having voices in your head that can take control of you is a pretty good sign of schitzophrenia.
Well, back on subject, I want to hear from others, do you have friends/family or are you schitzophrenic?
-
Umm I can guarantee your friends don't have it either. It's so very rare, we all hear voices in our heads sometimes, doesn't mean you have it. Schizophrenia is thought to affect about 1% of the population worldwide.Schizophrenia is a serious brain disorder. It is a disease that makes it difficult for a person to tell the difference between real and unreal experiences, to think logically, to have normal emotional responses to others, and to behave normally in social situations.Physical illness occurs at high rates among people with schizophrenia due to psychiatric treatment itself (such as side effects from medication) and living conditions associated with chronic disability. These may go undetected because of poor access to medical care and because of difficulties communicating with health care providers. This is off of yahoo health

actually having two personalities can be a sign, my uncle had schitzophrenia.. most cases of schizophrenia who have two personalities they see the other personality and they tell them to do things, and when this other personality comes along they don't remember, it's possible that this person does have it. and my grandpa is a doctor, and he says it's very likely. Im confused on how you know u have it without seeing a doctor.. but Im not disagreeing with you, it's possible
-
You are not schizophrenic, end of story. Stupid little teenagers like to think they have mental illnesses because they think it's cool

OK, well, I really don't think it to be cool, I think it to be a major problem at times. I actually almost lost a relationship with a friend because of it. And don't call me a little teenager, please, you don't want to get me mad, trust me.

Well, I can overall tell the differences between real and unreal things/events, but I do have trouble responding to others emotionally occasionally. I have a question though, does it generally tend to run in a family, because I'm pretty sure no one in my family has it, at least, I think no one in my family does?
In reply to:
Umm I can guarantee your friends don't have it either.
Sorry, that was my bad choice of words. I meant to say that they believe that I have it, b/c I told them I did, and they've shared experiences with me in which my stupid other half played a major role, so sorry for the bad choice of words. Oh, and thanks for the info from Yahoo Health, Amanda.

Well, I do remember when he comes along, but he's a bit difficult to control, like, anger-wise. He's just very competeitive and likes to blandly threaten people, but so far, hasn't hurt anyone.

Yeah, it's because of the opinions I hear from friends and my own conclusions that I figured out I had it, but as I said, I definately want to see a doc about it at some point, just not too soon. BUT, I would like reccomendations, should I see a doctor sooner or later?
Thanks for the help, guys!

You just can't reliably self-diagnose mental disorders, Sephiroth. I think the sooner you have a professional opinion, the better. It means you can understand yourself better, and start treatment if that is desirable.
-
Bah, I don't know if I want treatment for it, well, if worse comes to worse I will, but now it's all pretty good. Well, thanks for the opinions guys! Oh, no one answered my question, can schitzophrenia run in the family?
-
Not in yours
-
In reply to: should I see a doctor sooner or later? Sooner and b4 u start runnign around saying you have it u need to know for sure. they got medications for it u know. In reply to: I don't know if I want treatment for it don't know if I want treatment for itthen y the hell are u telling us about it and askign for our help or whatever. see a doc and get treament if u do have it.

Schizophrenia does have a genetic component - if a close relative has it, you are more likely to have it. If an identical twin has it, the other twin has a 50% chance of having it, which shows it's about half genetic. But we don't know whether it's schizophrenia that is at issue here.
-
Well, I'm not sure why you're all gaining up on me, but seven wants ten, why do you think that it doesn't run in my family? I mean, you've never met me, I could have a relative with schitzophrenia that I don't know about....you never know. Well, thanks for all of the help and opinions guys, if anyone wants to post about a friend, family member or aquaintance (SP) with schitzophrenia, feel free to.

we're not gaining up on you, but you can't go around saying you suffer from it when you've never been to a doctor, that's ridiculous
