ok so math has always been my worst subject at school, and its so embarrassing...its not that im bad at it, i can do it...but im really slow...it takes me forever to do the simplest math, and i still need to use my fingers for adding the smallest numbers...this is why i do so bad..and today i was so humiliated, we were doing easy crap since it was the 3rd day of school...and i was having the most trouble...well my best friend was offering me help, but making fun of me at the same time..and basicly the whole class heard everything..i really wish people could understand how embarrassing that is to me and how much it hurts when im sitting there struggling to do the simplest shit while everyone else is done..i really dont know where i was going with this one, i guess im just ranting..

Math...

Trust me, you're not alone. I'm as slow as a snail with it comes to math. Have you ever tried getting some extra help from a tutor at your school? Not just to help you get the problems, but also help you learn better study skills?
-
no they cant help me...im just slow. i know how to do most of it its just really hard, because i take soo long to process everything in my head..and its even worse when people are laughing at me or watching

maybe you can try certain tricks to make yourself faster at doing the simple stuff, because when you use the simple stuff for the big stuff, it'll be faster as well. Tricks can help, like the 9 + x trick. there are a few separation tricks for multiplying and adding. Forgive me if I'm giving you obvious information, but I'm not sure what you mean by having trouble with simple numbers x.x. I tend not to assume too much lately, so sorry if I seem to deign. :T It wasn't my intention to.

i try using little tricks, but it still takes forever...and by simple numbers i mean single digits and doubles. like if you were to ask me what 8+7 is it would take me a while unless i used my fingers, but even that can confuse me.. and stuff like 11 x 2 or like 23+22(just giving some examples) i take really long at stuff like that, and im not even gonna try estimating how long it takes me for decimals and algebra crap

i hate math too. i suck at it. really. i can;t read a ruler (unless u count counting the slashes as "reading" it) and well multiplcations.... unles sit;s 2's and 5" or i have a caclulater i;m fucking lost. shit have no idea how to change a fraction into a decimal ...untill i''m reminded how too. and then trowing in letters wiht the numbers .SHIT!! i'm lost. i go to tutoring.......with out that i'd never pass.
somethign my 3ed grade teacher tought me.. it;s u know the largis number ..liek u said 8+ 7...well u say 8 and then wiht ur fingers u count.. 9 1o 11 12 13 14 15 (hold up 7 fingers) each finger is a numer up. cuz that;s wut ut doing is adding a number up. by 8th grade i can do smal numbers in my head. .liek say 9+3. the 3 is a small number so i can think 9, 10, 11, 12.......but when it gets bigger than a 5 i have to go to my fingers. lol
-
I just can't believe that people are making fun of you... That's absolutely ridiculous, everyone has things that they suck at.
-
wow cr, im almost exactly the same way,, and to the other person that posted(im not even gonna bother trying to remember your name lol) you know what the worst part is? its bad enough that im a junior in a sophmore math vlass, but theres seniors in there too.

well... I don't know if it means anything but things like 8+7, when i do it, I just think 8+2 is 10 and what's left over of seven is 5 so the answer has to be 15. but that's just me; it's probably more complicated than what other people do, or am I just being weirder here?
Anyways, I hope you find a way to get through your math problem :T. I wish you the best for your math clas

well... I don't know if it means anything but things like 8+7, when i do it, I just think 8+2 is 10 and what's left over of seven is 5 so the answer has to be 15That's exactly what I do. And I have to do "simple math" like that every day.At my job (Subway), I'm the one who has to make more bread in the afternoon. First I have to count how much we have of each bread (easy) then I have to figure out how much more we need. Well we're supposed to ahve 60 white, 45 wheat, 24 herb and cheese, 16 monterey cheddar, and 12 honey oat.Now after I count the bread, it may look something like: 27 white, 16 wheat, 14 herb and cheese, 7 cheddar, and 9 honey oat.In this case, here's how I would figure it out:White: We have 27, need 60. I would simply add 3 to 27 to get 30, then add 30 since 30 is half of 60. So we need 33 white.Wheat: Have 16, need 45. I would subtract 6 from 45 to get 39, then subtract 10 more to get 29. We need 29 more wheat.Herb and Cheese: Have 14, need 24. Easy, 10.Cheddar: Have 7, need 16. Subtract 6 from 16, then subtract 1 more. We need 9.Honey Oat: Subtract 2 from 12, then one more. We need 3.

when it comes to addition/subtraction/multiplion/division, it's all about MEMORIZATION for simple numbers. Just sit down and try to do a hundred simple addition and simple multiplication problems, NO CALCULATOR, and you will get better. This is a huge problem of people in our generation, relying too heavily on a calculator. Once you're at the point where you can add two digit or even three digit numbers in your head, you're good. Anyways I don't think I'm a huge whiz in math although i did just get through 1st year at university with a B, so if any of you guys need some late night help just msn it at vanity81@hotmail.com

For the simple math like that, the best thing to do would be printing out four sheets of 50 equations for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. You could either make them yourself or find them on the web, not sure where though.
But what you'd do is try to do one in 5 minutes. If you get all the answers correctly, do the next one in 5 minutes and try to get all of them right. If you don't get all of them right or don't finish in the 5 minutes, do it again the next day. This is the order it's better to do them in: +,-,x,÷. Once you get through division, shorten your time by 30 seconds.
This is what we did in 5th grade, and rote memorization is probably the best way for this simple math.
I don't know what a good time to shoot for is because I've always been really advanced in math (Calc 2 and 3 as a Junior, college level Calc 2 and 3, not watered down...) so I got to 1:30\. I'd say a good time is 2:30 or 3:00, but I'm not sure.
Hope this helps. -
well thanks for the advice everyone, but i wish it was that easy to overcome this...im not worried about my slowness, just the quality of my friends..

thanks helms, i might try that out
