Hi, I've been looking for some new music recently and I would appreciate any suggestions. I like pretty much all music except for country and heavy metal. My favorite is classic rock. Any suggestions would be great, thanks!
Its not new at all and I'm sure that you've probably heard them a lot, but my favourite band is Muse.
try SR-71, breaking benjamin and sick puppies I have more bands, but you might have heard of them
I fucking hate country music, but just the new shit. Maybe you shoudl look into the old country when country was country instead of fucking pop.
that being said I can tell you some great shit with out listing any country, or heavy metal, keep in mind I love metal,. but can find good shit in nearly every single musical style, including gospel, even though I dont belive in god.
punk, its not metal, and it can be good, not the shit that passes as punk now, the good punk, the old shit that started the punk movement and kept it going.
just to stay with whats easy to find, how about the sex pistols?
or nasty nasty by 999 back in the 70s?
too much to handle?
how about we stay away form the hard shit all together, look into damned near any song of James McMurtry, but I suggest where'd you hide the body" as a first look into his shit.
Iv always liked styx, soft, but still a bit of an edge in the lyrics and queen ? who the fuck can not like queen?
google SRV... Stevie Ray Vaughn, the greatest guitarist to ever have lived, start with pride and joy, sweet lil thang, the sky is crying, life by the drop, look at little sister, willie the wimp and his caddilac coffin. IF you dont find something grat in those then youll never enjoy SRV the way it shoudl be enjoyed, folling great guitarist my vote for currently living greatest is Kenny Wayne Sheppard, blue on black, fuck it, any KWS song. his last album was him doing vocals and before that it was always noah ryder that did them, I like noahs voice better but KWS guitar work more than makes up for the lack of Noahs voice.
BB King, Eric Clapton, for guitar these are the most important names to know with a side note to Jimmi Hendrix, he was great and ahead of his time, but nt a true master like the other names I listed.
want some odd shit to hear? you siad you liked classic rock, look into bobby darrin, beyond the sea, mac the knife, actually most of his crooning shit is great, he was never a sinatra, but he wanted to be and should of been, and while we brought the name up, look into sinatra too, he did alot of great shit.
staying in the lines of classic rock we have to make sure you sample some BOC-blue oyster cult. The eagles, blue suede, he george baker selection, specifically, little green bag by them, steppen wolf, steelers wheel with stuck in the middle with you, a song made famous with a scene from resvioir dogs when micheal madsen carves up the cop he took prisinor. In fact look into the entire soundtrack for that movie and pulp fiction, songs like the nights went out in georgia, if love is a red dress hang me in rags, littel green bag, magic carpet ride, son of a preacher man, some really good classic rock shit even some ricky nielson has some shit on there.
When you exaust those sources, look into Tom Waits, dont jump to brawlers ballers and bastards, go back to the old shit, the new is too far gone for most peopel that were not fans before he did it, look into the songs from rain dogs, clsoing time, blue valentines, if ya like that shit, then try out foriegn affairs and small cahnge then mule variations, if you stil llike it after mule, then go ahead an pick up the 3 disc set of brawlers ballers and bastards.
as a first sampleing on mule variations, avoid the track titled phillipino box spring hog. save it for after the rest of the album and start wtih something like hold on, maybe come on up to the house, georgia.
You can never go wrong with a Warren Zevon song.
for the odd shit of his look into real or not, jesse james, boom boom mancini, jeannie needs a shooter, the envoy, mr bad example. for starters though stick with veracruz, tenderness on the block, johnny strikes up the band, werewolves of london, next best thing, if ya like any of that then go fucking hog wild and leap into all the other zevon classics. make certain though you atleast hear 2 songs from him, my shits fucked up, and keep me in your heart.
There is far too much good music in the world to exclude any genre
add to these some real classic rock like Buddy Holly and the crickets, ritchie valens, little richard, and for the original version look into dion and the belmonts last kiss, if you liked pearl jams version youll love the original.
I love Pink Floyd, if you like classic rock they're at least worth checking out.
I spemnt 2 hours last ngiht listening to Floyd, great shit, even better if Im in the dark and high and alone to put on dark side of the moon or the wall and space out.BTW, the interviews I heard last night with waters, did ya know that comfortably numb had nothing to do with herione?its a true story about a pain shot he got before going on stage when he was hurt during a tour, but fuck it does lend its self to illegal narcotics well.Im old, 37 in a few months, its OK for me to like flyde, anyone younger always seems to get caught up in that shit being an "older brother" album and dismiss it with out even hearing it.
Well I'm glad to hear I'm not alone I love everything by them, I've listened to all their CDs, and the only two I didn't like were Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and More, because they just sounded nothing like them. I definitely recommend Atom Heart Mother and Meddle, if you haven't heard them yet.I actually never thought Comforably Numb was about heroine. I always figured it was about painkillers.
Thanks so much for all the suggestions, Stevie Ray Vaughn and BOC are great, I havent looked into much of the others but I definitely will
I dont recall right now the order of the CDs but if you look into that you may just find tha the ones you didnt like were after waters left the band and decided he was a solo artist, the other band memebres put out a cd, but didnt decide it was a floyd album till 3 months into recording it, it may be with out waters lyrics and feel you dont think of it as the pink, I knwo the last one waters ws on was the follow up to the wall... final cut? thats nto right, but final something I think, Id have to look into it as I dont recall right now. but his absense changed te pink forever.
Piper At The Gates Of Dawn was their first album, written by Syd Barrett. I've heard the guy was insane, which is why they got rid of him. I don't know, but I do know the songs he wrote sucked, compared to the ones by Waters. More was their third album, it was done by Waters but the style was alot like their first, which is why I hated it.No, you're right, The Final Cut is the name of the album. And - Really? I've heard that there was alot of shit going on behind the scenes with Floyd in their later years, but never any specifics. I actually liked The Division Bell(Their last album), but now that you say that, there definitely was a difference in style between that and their others.
