I have been having endless, annoying issues with a particular pop-up on this site. I had once been able to solve this problem by using the instructions on the "No more Pop-ups! thread by sdp. I need to do this again because I lost the settings when my hard drive died. The problem is that that thread is years old, and there have been a ton of changes to windows. Specifically, the instructions that follow after "click custom level button" no longer match the wording of the options in that window. I'm just not sure what to enable or disable. It would be really great if sdp or someone else could update that old thread to make it usable again. Last time around it worked 100% for me.

Updated pop-up solution
-
Huh. Pop-ups? Really? I just use a pop-up blocker rather than a trick for the site specifically. I don't know, but having a general blocker is better, yes?
-
I moved this thread to a more appropriate forum.
-
Which browser version are you using?
-
I'm using Internet Explorer 7. And I have it set to block pop-ups. I usually am on through AOL, and I have that set to block pop-ups. And I use Zone Alarm Pro, and I have that set as well to block pop-ups. Yet this one particular one gets through over and over again when I'm on A2A virtually every time I click on anything. The only thing that ever seemed fully effective was the fix in that old thread. I should mention too that I'm still using XP. The endless pop up is about classmates.com.

IDK ..It's virtually identical as version 6. But I updated a couple of minor things:
For Internet Explorer Version 7:
From the Menu click on Tools>Internet Options
Click on the Security Tab
Click on the Green Check mark (Trusted Sites)
Click on the "Sites" button
Type http://www.afraidtoask.com in the "Add this Web site to the zone" box
Uncheck the box below that says "Require server verification"
Click the Add button
Click Close
Click Custom Level button
Scroll down the settings until you get to the "Scripting" menu
Under "Active scripting", select Disable
Under "Scripting of Java applets", select Disable..
(There are a few others, you can disable them too)
Click on OK button
Click on Apply button
Click on OK button
Close Internet Explorer -
Thanks a real lot sdp. I'll try it when I have time. I really appreciate it.
-
Ok sdp. When I follow these instructions exactly I then have a problem of some things not working right. When I click on "active topics" I don't get the drop down menu. I tried just either one of the 2 (disable active scripting or disable java applets) and that doesn't work. It's just ridiculous: it's the same one pop up over and over again every time I click on anything at all.

Hey Peter,I did this a long time ago and it still works. The only pop-up I am dealing with now is that damn "Live Search" bullshit that pops-up when you move over a highlighted word in the text.If I do this again, will it stop that too?
-
It's weird Roc. This had worked perfectly for me too. But then i had a hard drive crash and had to reinstall everything. And this doesn't work now for somce crazy reason.Ok. I just discovered something very weird about this problem. I use DSL, and if I go online using just Internet Explorer, then I am not having this pop-up problem. However, I usually work through AOL, and on aol I get this pop-up every time. So it must be an aol issue, and I have aol set to block pop-ups, which it normally does except with this particular one.Anyone have any ideas?
-
Don't use AOL's browser for this site?
-
I usually work through AOL, Yeah if you are using AOL's browser, then I can't help you.If you disable Javascript, then yes, some of the features here won't work. The Intellitext advertisement is also a javascript application. I would think that disabling everything related to javascript would kill it, but I'm not positive. I have to have it all enabled or I can't get into some of the admin features.

I use Firefox and Nod32 and I have no problems with this site at all, except for the Live Search thing that Roc mentioned.
