I've had cold sores my entire life, longer than I can remember. When I grew older, around 10 or 11 I started getting extremely self-conscious about them. They occur every month and a half or so and last 2 to 3 weeks. During High School I was called "Herpes Boy" and I eventually stopped going to college after a terrible outbreak.Usually they come 2 at a time, a big one and a small one, as soon as they begin to heal another show up, when that one heals, another. The episode can last a total of 6 weeks. It's humiliating and unnatural to get them that much. I've done careful research online. Avoided certain foods like nuts entirely. I've taken Lysine supplements compulsively until I had extreme shits. Every day the thought of a cold sore is on my mind. I obsess over it. Before I open my eyes in the morning I check around my mouth for another sore. When I get one I don't leave the house and act weird around people. I've spent more than $80 a week on those tiny, expensive Abreva tubes. I want to die. Why is this happening to me???

Constant Cold Sores

Here are some other therapies for it. Valtrex will help keep from having out breaks, providing you have healthy filter organs...liver, kidneys...
-
Why? Who knows.
Have you talked to your doctor about this? There are other meds out there like Famvir, Valtrex and Zovirax.
-
I asked my doctor years ago for that and he gave me some crappy thick cream that looks like cum once it warms up around your face.
-
Yeah it was Zovirax and whenever I thought I had a sore coming I panicked and used a shitload obsessively. I'm tired of this fear controlling my life.
-
So go to another doctor or insist that they send you to a dermatologist. There are good doctors and shit doctors out there.
-
But that was years ago. Therapies have come a long way, and they know better now what the side effects could be. It's worth trying again.
-
This was like in 2005 he gave me the Zovirax and it's $40 a tube that lasts me like a week, plus I think those creams just spread it around and do more harm than good.
-
That was still a while ago. Talk to the doc, or even a different doc. They use Valtrex pretty regularly now. It seems to be pretty good at keeping the sores away if you take what is called a maintenance dose, and it also helps heal it faster if you just use it as a treatment when your starting an outbreak.
-
Ok, will do. Problem is I spent the last year overseas and need to reinstate insurance, etc
-
The doc may give you samples too. IDk.
-
Good heavens, the active ingredient (if it is active at all) in Abreva is 1-docosanol, which Fluka sells for about $100 for 100 grams.
-
No maybe that'll get you 2 grams. But Abreva is bullshit, those tubes are like the size of a small tooth and last for a day maybe, and I always speed to the store to buy a tube because I panic and go nuts when I think i might get an outbreak and smear it all over my face and then it turns out to be a false alarm. Like I said, this controls my life.

i can't see doctors in the U.S. anymore and I dont know if they carry it overseas in non-major countries
