ok so winters here (well atleast in michigan its snowing) and that means bad fucking traction for my tiny lil pick up truck ( s-10) the tires are pretty new and still good but theres still not enough weight in the back so it skids around when the snow falls, so what all can i do for better traction?

Traction

I think he's talking about slipping when driving.Oh wait.. you're saying put the bags in the back to weigh it down?
-
I'll give him his due; I've found the S-10 to have a little bit more of a tendency to slide out the rear end during winter weather (granted; it's a good reliable truck, though) To that end, Dan...to help with your traction problems (with the bags of sand or salt as it has been said) if you have some spare 2x4's lying around, make a simple frame in the bed to help the bags of sand from shifting in turns or under hard stops.BTW: there is nothing wrong with used winter tires, or just getting winter tires for the back (There is a lot of debate on this issue, but I can't say I've seen problems from driving a RWD Crown Victoria or my S-10 from work with just winter tires on the back end)

no that was the question, i knew the basics of what to use, just not how many would suffice, or how much they cost a bag, or if there was anything new i could use, and ill probably look into buying winter tires
but yeah last winter was the first time i drove in the snow with my lil buddy, hell last year was the first time i drove at all licensed anyway, and this year ill probably keep a thing of salt in case i get stuck or something

I just moved to Alabama - that solved most of my winter driving problems:)The sand should be 2 - 3 bucks a bag. Get just the morter sand though I bet there's not a big difference in price. On top of that, we just used to fill the bed with snow - them trim it off if the ride felt funny.

already got 4,60lb bags of tubesand 5$ a pop, and im going to look into snow tires next week
-
and put said bags over the rear axle, between 4 boards so they wont move today

It's kind of late, but there is a thing that fits in the bed of your truck that you fill up with water and it's in different "chambers" so that the weight is evenly distributed. It's called ShurTrax and it's about 120 bucks or so. I've heard a lot of good things about it.
