Urgh. Not that I think badly of it, I just don't know what to keep on hand. Lil Bit has become a vegetarian on me.....Not vegan, so eggs, milk and yogurt are still on the table. BUT she is in weight training. HEEEEEELLLLLPPPPPP!!!!I don't know where to find the protein, (Tofu, beans, yogurt, eggs????) for the intensity of her day.I KNEW she felt bad for the animals, but she used to eat at least animals she never met!!!She crashed a few weeks ago, so now I am concerned. We need a high protein vegetarian diet, that doesn't sacrifice the B vitamins...She LOVES pasta, and that is where she goes if it is around. She weights 115, and is doing cleans, at 100. And going for more, benching I think 90....She needs a good diet for it....

Problem with vegetarian diets and protein is not only do they struggle to get enough protein, the protein they do get does not always contain the full range of essential amino acids. For example, legumes provide plenty of isoleucine and lysine, but fall short in methionine and tryptophan. Whereas grains are the complete opposite. So eating both together is an excellent source of protein.Whey, eggs, and dairy are still an excellent source of protein though. In fact, egg and whey are the best.Other concerns are iron intake. I would not recommend taking an iron supplement because it is very easy to overdose, and requires a prescription in many countries just to buy. Instead take vitamin C with any meal that contains leafy green vegetables. These vegetables contain iron, but in a form that is not easily digested, vitamin C helps convert it.If she eats a lot of soy be careful of zinc deficiency, it is not often a problem in vegetarians, but zinc like iron is not easily absorbed in its plant form. Soy products which are often used as meat substitute also interfere with zinc absorption. Finally you have to keep an eye on the vitamin B12. This vitamin is only comes from animal sources. Try to get fortified* soy milk or cereal or just buy a supplement.Otherwise, good luck!*Fortified means vitamins and minerals have been added in during processing.

Lentils and cottage cheese. Force em on her till she goes back to the meat.

Lentils are yummy.... Cottage Cheese umm well I just cannot bring myself to eat spoiled milk lol
-
I can eat both of those all day. 2 nights ago I had small curd for dinner after my GF's experimental dinner flopped. Lentils are one of my all time favorite foods. Where I'm from in the Carribean, they're real popular.

Sorry Frankie got a little side tracked and forgot to reply to you.Being a Vegetarian can be a VERY healthy lifestyle if it's done right. One of my best friends is a vegan (but was a vegetarian for MANY years before moving onto veganism) and he did a lot of research before he made the lifestyle change, and it truly is a change and takes a lot of self-control. I have another friend who’s a vegetarian for health reasons, his family has a lot of heart disease, high cholesterol, etc and to help reduce the risk later in life he decided to make the lifestyle change, and he admits its very hard because he liked red meats. I'd recommend that you both go on-line or to the local library and do a lot of reading on vegetarianism. Possibly even find a forum that's designed for the support of vegetarians, to help make sure she is doing things correctly plus they usually have great recipes! The main concern is to make sure she is not missing out on the important minerals, amino acids etc. I’ve heard of people who went vegetarian and ended up seriously hurting themselves health wise because they weren’t well educated on the topic. Main point.. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH!! I have in the past toyed with the idea of becoming a vegetarian do to my own personal healthy issues, and plus my family health concerns when it comes to heart disease. Though I personally don’t think I could do it, let along do it properly. So instead I cut down on the red meat (cannot even think of the last time I actually had a steak!), and eat more fresh foods.I doubt I was much help but that’s pretty much all I have to add

Well, for regular stuff, she seems to be doing ok. It is since she decided to do the weight training, and the extra running that I really started to get concerned. She is Lacto-ovo vegetarian, so she gets nutrients from dairy and eggs. I think I will check into the protein shakes and see how she does with that, before and after her workouts. Something is missing, she is too exhausted. Last year we had a similar issue, and had a blood panel ran, at that point she was eating meat. Everything was fine...
