With very much regret, and only because he strongly insisted on it, I have deleted Helmsman's account and posts. The way the system works, threads he started have been deleted, and his posts in other threads have all been removed, and any replies to his posts are now represented as replying to the post he had been replying to. This action cannot be reversed.I think we are all agreed that the board is much the poorer for the loss of many of Helmsman's posts, and I am saddened and distressed to have had to do it.The process also wiped the titles of last posts from the main index, but they will return as new threads are made.

Helmsman's account and posts have been deleted

It's very sad to see that he chose to leave this way I wish him all the best of luck in the future in what ever he may do
-
:( i tried to contact him before he left.. i really wish i could have his email or some sort to keep in touch with him. he really helped me thru tough times.. and i really miss him
-
Sad to see all his posts leave the site, there was a lot of good advice especially in the Health and Fitness forum. But as any forum we'll rebuild
-
You'll have to ask him. He was the one locking threads lately.
-
For me locking a thread is a last resort and it's been a long time since I locked a thread. Sometimes in the best interest of the boards it's best to lock down heating topics. Ideally it would be nice that when a mod asks people to chill out that people listen... but those who have been around the forums a long time know that just doesn't happen.
As for deleting posts, I cannot even think of the last time I have done that if ever.
-
That's too much censorship for my taste to be honest. Unless the thread itself is harmful to the boards society I would never delete a whole thread. Locking, in my opinion, makes more sense.
-
I think what he means isn't deleting the thread. It's deleting just the posts that are creating the "problem" inside the thread. That keeps the thread available for discussion, and the harmful post, for all intensive purposes, never was.
-
I feel thats too much censorship to be honest. If we mods deleted every post that might offend someone we'd never get anything else done.
-
...wouldn't be very many threads left, either.
-
I'm really going to miss Helmsy also. He gave great advice and I loved his sense of humor. I know he's going to live a long and happy life. Best of luck to him.
However, I can't deny the fact I'm also very disappointed in the choice that he made. This was the guy who went on about how to not let people get to you, use the Ignore feature on this board, and think about your karma. I know he's human and he probably hit his breaking point, but I thought he would handle this situation much better.
It's very sad indeed.

I think alot of people dont fully know the reason he is leaving
-
I don't know the whole reason also, but there are (or were) obvious clues on recent posts.
-
Thank you Pete. No one but me is happier that he's gone now.All his talk about karma and all that other bullshit just came crashing down with his last few posts.... that's all I'm going to say about it. What's done is done, time to move on.

I totally agree.

And, why aren't there strict guidelines for locking thread and deleting posts? That's too hard to do. It's up to the discretion of the individual Admin/Mod.I've deleted posts/replies before most people have seen them that I deemed unworthy of contributing to the thread. We can turn on FULL moderation, meaning that EVERY post needs to be "approved" before it's posted to the thread. That would be fun, huh?

He's free to ask..
-
Ah.. yeah I saw that. I really don't know much about blogs. i guess it's kind of the same thing as a forum
