" the fuel pump/ sending unit assembly is located inside the fuel tank"
-
from about 85 up most of them got stuck insid ethe fuel tank, but theres no electrical shit inside there, thast in a harness outside the tank, but you may have to drop the tank to get to it.if that doenst fix it plug it back in and trace back to the next harness, drop it there, look for bad insulation along the way or a place where the wires have grounded out and shorted.WHats the amp rating on that fuse? It may be a big burned spot or melted wire that is easy to find if you know to look for it.if its lower amps it may be a smaller burn or less noticeable one anyways.this is exactly why a wire diagram is so valuable in doing this shit,
-
its 15Aand im probably going to have to wait for my dad to get into that shit then
-
Why don't you take it to an AutoZone, or whatever you have where you live? They are knowledgable and if it's something simple they will take a look at it for you for free. Especially since they figure you will just be buying the parts from them anyway. That's what I always did when I owned piece of shit cars.
-
Even if the fuel pump is in the tank, the connector is going to be on outside of the tank where that fuel pump is. Unfortunately, it might require removal of the entire fuel tank which can be very ugly.
-
if I couldnt find it, Id replace the fuse, hook it all up, wait for dark, climb under the car and have someone try the key, see if I could see the flash. fuses are cheap, but during teh day Id look at just trouble shooting it and getting it back on the road.

This is what the pump looks like: Fuel Pump

yeah im just going to have to wait til my dad gets home to check it all out, atleast weve narrowed it down so we wont have to spend 3 1/2 hours checking everything, thanks guys

Forums related to the car you have are a great help too.I had great luck in a BMW forum. I got excellent help with replacing a transmission.. Chevy S-10 Forum

i cant get that forum to load for the life of me just says "the connection has timed out" on firefox
-
I use FF, and it loaded right up for me
-
yeah mine has strange problems here and there, like sometimes i wont be able to get into this forum for a day or two i have no idea why
-
It usually only works for us pretty girls hon....
-
You don't have regular Microsoft Internet Explorer on your computer?
-
i do, but that wont run it either
-
ok so we got into it today, took the connector off the fuel pump, still blew the fuse, then when we took off the relay switch it didnt blow, but with it back on the fuse does blow, so does that mean theres either a short somewhere between that and the ECM or could it be the ECM itself? and if it, is there anyway to test it or what?
-
It means there's a short in the relay switch. Now you know which component needs changing.
-
I think the relay is OK. The relay is connecting the faulty wire to the power supply which shorts and blows the fuse. What you need to do is use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the wire to the body. You need to disconnect the battery when you do this. If you can trace the wire which feeds the fuel pump, it should not read 0 ohms. The short is after the relay.Inelegible says it's the relay. I don't know why the relay would short out. The most common failure would be an open.
-
I reread your post....Let me qualify my previous response. Does it short when you try to START the car or does it short just when you put it(relay) in?
