I've had cystitis for years and even had it as a child but the "honeymoon cystitis" seems particularly persistant. I was prescribed Trimethoprim last time I had it and was told to stop taking the tablets as soon as they did the trick so I'd have some left if it happened again. Now I'm sexually active again it has come back and I seem to be spending my life going back and forth from the bathroom. Taking one or two tablets makes it goes away but as soon as I have sex or masturbate it's back once again, even if I pee afterwards. Cranberry juice helps but doesn't completely eliminate it. Is there a perminant cure for this or am I destined to a life of taking these tablets on a daily basis or just putting up with peeing blood? Has anyone else got any ideas how I could help it?

Quote:was told to stop taking the tablets as soon as they did the trickYour doctor should have known better. That was an important lecture he/she must have missed. You should always finish the course of antibiotics, or you encourage the development of a resistant strain."Honeymoon cystitis" is a urinary tract infection, the result of bacteria being pushed up the urethra during sex. An antiseptic wash before sex might help, but it's also important to give it a full dose of antibiotic and not stop when the symptoms subside.

I didn't look up cystitis. I thought it was something more serious. Didn't realize it was a fancy term for a UTI.
