In reply to:With depression, the brain chemical serotonin is usually low, resulting in a lethargic feeling and a lack of interest in life, among other symptoms. It's actually more complicated than that, no1sexpot. There are at least three neurotransmitters that may be involved - serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine - and it's probably nothing as simple as just the amounts of them.Neurofibromatosis is a nasty thing to have, MysteryManAlpha, so it wouldn't be surprising if you were depressed about having it. Depression can result from bad news and then it's called "reactive depression" - it's not due to chemical imbalance originally, but it causes it. I haven't heard of neurofibromatosis causing depression neurologically but since we know so little about the causes of depression it might be possible.

will medacation work or do i just have to find a way do deal with it by just supressing it.

Some people with NF are on antidepressants so it seems it does work.
-
i am taking the sedative ambian will an antidepressent be incompatable with it?
-
It appears from the manufacturer's studies with Ambien and a couple of common antidepressants that the interactions aren't severe. They work on different brain chemicals, so it should be possible to use both.
-
yes my best friend and brother are both on ambien and an antidepressant. most work fine together
