This random girl amongst her group of friends came up to me today and asked me if I'm from London. I was kind of of confused and I just said no and she says "oh... because you talk like you're from London"... wow. I may have run into her some time before when I was joking with my other friends. Sometimes we speak with English accents as a joke. And I guess the teenagers in my town are so... naive they can't tell the difference between a REAL English accent and an American impersonating one. lol This isn't the first time I got a question like this. You know.. really weird and random questions. Like I've been asked if I was Puerto Rican, if I speak English or rather "usted habla ingles?" , if I'm from the Dominican Republic, if I'm biracial, if my EYES are real , if I'm related to Jessica Alba, if I can dance like Beyonce (in Japan), and if my little brother is my son. People are strange. Anybody else get asked random questions from strangers?

"Are you from London?"
-
LOL, YES!!!Yesterday (Wednesday) while I was at work, an elderly man came in to buy three back issues of newspapers. Before he left, he asked: "Do you know ____ ?" I gave him a puzzled look and said, "who?" He said, "_ ______, the black man up the street?" I said, "Oh, no, I don't know him." He said: "He's a good man." Puzzled, I said, "Oh, well, have a nice day!" And he left.Apparently where I'm working, all black people in the city are supposed know each other or are supposed to be related. And what's worse is that this wasn't the first time it happened to me while working up here. I was annoyed, yet amused by this.

I have been asked several times if I am Hispanic. I hate that, because why does it matter, you know? I get quite a bit of people that ask to touch my hair and alot of people that have actually just touched my hair. WTF is that about?
-
uhhh ive been asked similar questions in my neighborhood, even though i have a light skin, they consider me black since im only half... but yea a guy came up to me and asked if i knew this black dude that lives up the street(im damn shure he wasnt looking for him to have lunch or brunch... so i said no)uhh the only other time ive had a wierd question... uhhh...a girl asked me if i had lost alot of weight in my penis area...and when i asked her why, she told me that i had skin hanging from my penis and i said it was because im uncircumsized...she knew what uncircumsizion was, she juss never seen it before...

I don't get asked questions so much, but in the past the occasional know it all felt the need to TELL me what I am. For some reason people kept trying to convince me that i'm mulatto or puerto rican. When I corrected them they just told me I was wrong. It all started when I was a baby and people kept telling my mother I wasn't her's because she's too white.
-
That's not human nature, that's ignorance. The guy didn't ask her where she was from. He asked do you know the black guy down the street? That's like someone asking me if I know the white girl that works on the 5th floor.

I get a lot of questions about my accent.I first lerned to speak with a northern English accent, like my parent. It became Canadianized over the years but still has throw-backs. I also talk to a lot of people from the States and have occasionally picked up bits and phrases.I also work to accuratly mimmic accents and that often leaves a trace behind (possible I'm a natuaral mimmic like a raven)Anyway, I get asked if I'm from the most peculular places, from Newfoundland to Texas.(ps, I was born in London... Ontario)Hey Lish, if I had your hair wrapped around my fingers and pulled... would that be acceptable?

Originally Posted By: GrownPastMyYearsa girl asked me if i had lost alot of weight in my penis area...That doesn't make sense. Did you flash her or why would she ask you that?Anyway, back to Abi's question. I was onced asked if I were Italian, but that's really it. Because of my dark skin, it's not a huge mystery where my heritage is from. The only bizarre, random question I can remember is if I were a lesbian.
-
I disagree. I think it is very unusual. I have never been asked if I know that **white ** girl or whatever. Do I know the secretary on the 5th floor, or do I know the nurse that works for Dr. Smith etc....those questions are not unusual to me.
Mr. U, your accent makes me giggle, but your voice makes me tingle in my happy areas. Ok, now pull my hair.
Virtual, I think GPMY was talking about when he was about to get busy with a girl and she noticed he was uncut?? At least, I assumed that is what he meant.

Lisa, I hate when people do that. They ask me if it's my real hair and then have the nerve to touch it. Like this older woman came up to me and asked me if it was my real hair and when I said yes she was like "oh it's so curly" and then she put her who-knows-where-its-been hands on my hair. I just kept saying to myself "I know this lady does not have her hands in my hair!" anybody who knows me knows I hate having my hair touched. just irks me.
and armondo... I highly dislike Jessica Alba. pretty face, can't act to save her life.
Somebody needs to ask me if I'm MIddle Eastern. That will make my day.
-
Ok, now you are confusing me. Yes, it is the color white that makes it unusual. You said it is not unusual to have someone ask you about a 'white girl'. I said it is unusual. No one ever asks (at least in my experiences) if I know that 'white girl' down the street. But for whatever reason, people seem to slap the color black on a black person. Like all black people know each other. It is crazy to ask if I know the white/black girl on the 5th floor, when there could be 20 white/black girls on the 5th floor. Why attach a color to the person? Does that make more sense?

Hey Abi, you Middle Eastern?
-
Oh yea baby! lol I'm... from...Yemen... I actually wish I was part Middle Eastern. That would be so cool. I have a cousin who's Armenian but it's not the same *tear. lol
-
I've always wanted to ask if that is you in your avatar?
-
I wish! No, that's not me. That's one of my favorite actresses Meagan Good.
-
we had sex, but i left out that detail, so that i wont be thought of as "bragging" or whatever... she was a bit slow, but what she was talking about was the extra skin i have on my penis. she had only ever seen/been with a circ one... maybe i shoulda juss cut that section out, woulda saved me the creation of this response...
-
No, I'm not from London. ;-)I don't think I've been asked any questions like these, although I'm "full" white. Didn't have anyone in China or Australia ask if I was from somewhere other than I was, although I don't think I had the chance to talk to many people who didn't already know where I was from. I think I might be able to distinguish between British and Australian accents, but I'm not very sure. I think I'll know if I can when I go to Europe this summer.

To Radeckl: it's ignorance because he assumed that I would know a random black man from down the street. He based his assumption on the stereotype that all blacks know each other and/or are somehow related. To Lisa: I hate the hair thing, too. I had someone tell me when I was in high school: "I love your hair. It's not short and nappy like 'the other' girls." I think if that same girl had said the same thing to me now, I would have gone off on her ig'nant ass

Glad I am not the only one with the hair issue. What the hell is wrong with people?
Rad, I live in a mixed community made up of White, Black, Hispanic and Trash. I have never had a black person come up to me and assume I know another white person just because I am white. However, I have observed that happen to black people coming from a white person. Either way, I seem to keep missing your point so I am going to stop talking about it now.
