Um, what? Explain to me where any of my ideas were offensive. I wish there could be debates here without everything being blown out of proportion. Nothing that anyone has said here has offended me.

Food for thought.

yes! it does! experiencing something is SO different than hearing about it from others or seeing it happen. way different! I don't know how it's not? you don't know how it feels so how would you know seriously? I WITNESS a Chinese kid being called a ch*nk, this that and the other but do I have any idea what that's like? absolutely not. Have I gone through his experience. Do I know how the experiences of his life effect that situation. No, bud, I do not. So I don't know.
and I really don't see how I'm being "unfair" and giving him the "cold shoulder". Honestly how many smiley faces could I possibly put to make it clear I'm not arguing. This is not an argument it's a discussion. I made it clear and I have nothing against you. I just DISAGREE with the fact that witnessing something is the same as experiencing it. In which case you couldn't possibly know.
need more smileys  :scream_cat: :eyes: :sunglasses:   well actually he

(this isn't specifically a reply to Bob nor anyone in particular)Is it me just me? or does it seem like people are overreacting...

Never did I say that experiencing something was the same thing as seeing it. I have been saying that I have never seen anyone be called something derogatory like that based on their race by someone who is Chinese. I rarely ever see anyone who is Chinese say something derogatory. I know that seeing something is completely different than seeing something.I know it's not an argument and that it is a discussion/debate, and I have taken nothing personal.
-
Some might be, I don't know. Although, as A.W. explained, he's had some stuff going on in his life which is probably what has contributed to his overreaction based on a misunderstanding.
-
Honey, I'm as calm as ever. And by "making it personal", I meant don't putting your feelings on the line and thus, getting riled up.Like I said, Caucasian is an ethnicity. Just because they haven't been called what you and other's been called doesn't mean that can't understand or comprehend where you're coming from. Don't be so quick to call someone's opinion or experience as invalid because they are not of your race or walked in your shoes.Trust me, white folks get as much heat as the next colored person. So, there's no need for the "you don't understand, so don't talk" argument.I'm not being offensive nor do I think Cider crossed a line.

okie dokie artichokie! Quote:I have been saying that I have never seen anyone be called something derogatory like that based on their race by someone who is Chinese. I rarely ever see anyone who is Chinese say something derogatory.just because you've never seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen, Anakin...sorry I'm watching Star Wars and I'm like... warped by the gorgeousness that is Ewan McGregor.... Scotland's Flower..I don't mean to turn away from the subject so abruptly but who here on this site is Scottish? or is that just Bob who's Irish? Is there a song called Scotland's Flower?
-
I missed the part about A.W. saying he's got stuff going on. I'm not going to name names or openly take sides because I don't think that will help anything, but i'm just saying that upon reading it, it seemed as if this whole conversation was being blown completely out of proportion.
-
No one ever said you were. I think that in the same way you may have misinterpreted my posts, V_S misinterpreted your posts. This is what comes with the ambiguity of language.
-
I know it probably happens, just like the opposite probably happens as well. It was just my misinterpretation of what you were saying when you gave examples of cities where such stuff can happen. Although I know that it very rarely happens in my community based on the social standards where I live.
-
calm down, boo, it's alright.Speaking about race is a very touchy subject with most people. Even when it's not meant to be it can turn into it.I used to have HUGE MAJOR problems with race issues. Seriously I was like this one big grudge people-hating girl you just didn't want to mess with, back then. At least when it came to outside of my "zone". But that's because I let what happen to me in my past and how my "family" treat me effect how I treat others. I know it's hard sometimes especially when you've gone through something tough and painful. I feel you, buddy. And I'm surprised I haven't turned into a mass murderer lol (of my family people don't get it twisted). But really it's like... you have to let go... I don't know how to explain it... I'm still watching Star Wars and I'm afraid of giving you some weird parable like Yoda so... I'm going to stop right there lol.all I know is, it's hard trying to keep personal experiences from influencing how you see others. especially if it has a deep impact. but you're good!

where do you live?? can I come please?! I hate my city... my school... I wanna go to New ZEALAND!!
No, I love New York, very much but um... don't plan on staying here to long. Soon as college starts I'm gone.

Love, peace, and donuts for everyone!!!
-
Is it just me or has A.W. over-reacted at least 5 times in this thread?
-
Lol, I live in Colorado near Denver.
-
see for me, names like honky and cracker, dont mean shit to me. but when someone says something like "yesa massa" to me it just kinda pisses me off to think im even remotely being compared to those bigoted pieces of shit(the slaveowners) no matter the tone.

"yesa massa"
lol oh man I got the lecture of A LIFE TIME for joking around with one of my guy friends with that. I didn't mean for it to get out of control the way it did but he FREAKED out. He was so pissed. Usually I joke around like "o lordy, lordy I neva roam ag'n" in a strong southern accent. But when I said that to him. He made me feel terrible. Never again in life.
-
thank you, because you have used that before and i know i got pretty damn angry, dont think i blew up on ya though
-
lol no you haven't. and I have some badddd habits like that which I'm trying to get out of since I take it so light-heartedly. I don't realize how much of an effect if has on others
-
yeah that particular saying, or group of sayings probably doesnt have the same impact as the N word but its definately nowhere near as innocuous as cracker or honky
