Whats a 1998 pontiac sunfire convertible?
-
Sunfire's are girly cars. lolAnyway, I would say HELL NO! 122K miles?? No way unless they are selling it for $500.
-
yeah i know they are lolim trying to find a car with good gas mileage ive been thinking about a honda civic but those can be pretty expensive
-
I have owned piece of shit cars for years up until two years ago when I bought my first new-ish car. And in my opinion I would never buy any car over 100k. It's just that, that's when things start to break on cars. And you always end up dumping more money into it. Honda, Toyota....even if they have alot of miles on them, they tend to last 'forever'. Good luck!

yeah i actually just remembered we have a 1998 volkswagen jetta diesel in our driveway, oinly problem is its got a stuck valve or something, anyone know what i might expect to pay to get it fixed?
-
haha well its been there awhile, my dad hasnt had time to look into it but yeah i just stopped realizing it was there, that plus my parents said they wanted to keep it so there wasnt much point in being interested in it

If you can get that Jetta, that would be best. Repairs for it, I'm not sure but most things diesel aren't cheap but it could be cheaper than a new car. The great thing about those VW diesels is that it's not uncommon for them to hit 3- or even 400,000 miles without being rebuilt. Not to mention, they are pretty good on gas mileage and you can get biodiesel kits for them which will make your fuel costs almost unnoticeable.

i would suggest getting a toyota, in todays economy, the extra MPG would be good as hell...celicas, camrys, and such are good cars

As far as short block (without accessories, i.e. alternator, steering pump, etc.) are concerned, GM builds some of the stoutest engines alive...L-series anyone? With that kinda mileage, I'd personally be more worried about the interior parts of the car, and that vert leaking. The engine will last if it's been well maintained. Any car, be it yota/honda/nissan/daewoo/ford/dodge/maserati with 122k on the clock will show its age eventually. 122k is also right on par with the age of the car as far as mileage is concerned -- figure 10-12k/year. Check it out in detail. Look for rust on and UNDER the car, check for leaky seals under the car; see if you can get service records. And...GET A CARFAX. If the price is right (I wouldn't pay over 3k IF THAT), then go forth young man and prosper. Also, gas mileage will most likely be comparable to yota/honda/nissan as well.

I'm not sure if GM even builds the engines in those sunfires. I'm pretty sure the transmissions (at leat the manuals) are Isuzu. Actually, the first "Sunfire" sold by Pontiac was the 93 Asuna Sunfire wich was a 1.8L naturally aspirated Isuzu Impulse XS with a different name plate slapped on.
That's one of the reasons I scoff at those stupid bumper stickers "still unemployed, keep buying forgein" that people slap onto their so called domestic vehicles.
Often on a vehicle that has mixed heritage like a Ford that is mostly Mazda (like a Probe for instance) or a Chrysler that is full of Mitsubishi (Interpid)or a GM that is 100% Daewoo (Chevy Optra)
The "Big three" came to the conclusion years ago that they couldn't build affordable quality with a unionised work force. My 07 Ford Fusion is built on a Mazda 6 platform with a Volvo all-wheel-drive system and the exact same Duratec 30/Mazda AJ engine as Jaguar S-Type, Lincoln LS, Mazda MPV, Mazda6, Mercury Mystique etc etc.
sorry, just a slightly off topic rant
