http://www.truthsetsfree.net/study.htmlI stumbled upon this website recently, and thought i might share. I thought it was a very interesting read. Is the bible REALLY against gays? hmmm. What do you guys think of this? and on a side note, what the hell happened? I posted a question in the bowels section expecting some kind of reply...but nothing. Did everyone abandon ship? This board used to be so active!

Homosexuality in the bible

These studies can get distorted by wishful thinking, but there seems to be a lot of interesting scholarship there.I saw the post on the bowels board, but it needs someone with experience to answer it.

well i thought it was pretty cool, sounded convincing to me :P i wonder how things would be if more people would see this side of the story?

The world is full of folks who read only what makes them feel good about the choices they have made, so this is not anything unique.

I agree with you about people who read bits of the Bible and ignore other bits. But the question is not just what is in the Bible, but also what it means. That is not a trivial question when it involves words that appear nowhere else that we know of. It is not a trivial question even when all the words are well-known. There is always more to learn about any passage in Scripture, I find.I think the writer of that piece has made a good case. But I would like to know what other Greek and Hebrew scholars think.

well i dunno about greek and hebrew scholars, but i did find another site with a lot more detail, and sources http://www.religioustolerance.org/hom_bibl.htmim still reading through it though. theres a lot in there. And about reading bits and ignoring other bits...well, thats really not what this is about, but either way i don't actually follow the bible..just questing for knowledge and understanding :P

I would take their "reports" with a grain of salt, or at least look for verification elsewhere.

every translation is a translation of a translation..I wish more people would either be serious about the bible.. or just quit pretending..The truth of the matter is, if your not going to actually read the bible, and try to understand the details of almost each word used, its original context, and WHY what was done was done..Your wasting your time.If you just read things at surface level.. or go have a preacher tell you what it means... then your just trying to justify your own agenda and not really doing anything proactive..The fact that people even have an agenda while reading hte bible(besides understanding) is a sign they are doing something wrong..

Ok, firstly I think it's ridiculous to think that the bible condemns homosexuality explicitly because many churches are very open to homosexuals. Aside from that, the only story I read on that site that I can personally say is bullshit is the story of Sodom and Gomorrah.I have read the entire story of Sodom in two different bibles, both written quite differently, which says alone that bibles are all different. The story, however, was quite similar. Basically the people of Sodom were sinners, nothing specific is stated as to what. Gomorrah, however you spell it, was a good person, and god told him if he could find 200 good Sodomites, or something like that, he would spare Sodom, otherwise he would destroy it. Gomorrah talks him down to like 10 or something way lower. Some time later an angel is sent form heaven to check up on Sodom, some Sodomites appear to intend to rape this angel (but it is not even blatantly clear even that much) what is clear is they will do something bad to the angel. Instead Gomorrah gives his daughter to these Sodomites, they kill her it is definitely physical alludes to rape. Sorry I can't remember the exact quotes off the top of my head, to make a long story short. God spares Gomorrah and sends a firey oblivion to the rest of the Sodomites. There is absolutely nothing not one shred of evidence in there that alludes to homosexual sex, or even anal penetration.Of course this is my opinion and interpretation, I am a devout atheist, but I openly accept everyones beliefs. With the exception of when people tell me mine are wrong, because they are wrong, no one is wrong. If that doesn't confuse you enough than ok. My posts are all way to long, guess I just have too much to say.Jay
