So I've recently started downloading music through iTunes and have just discovered why I don't like it. Some of the songs I've downloaded (for the express purpose of transferring to an mp3 player) are protected and can only be burned to a disc or transferred to an iPod, not to a non-iPodish device. That SUCKS. I have an iTunes gift card and it's all a stinking crap shoot!Does anyone know any tricks to get around this stupid bit of fascism? How to unprotect a protected song?

Use other downloaders and download songs illegally like everyone else.If the issue is the format being a non-mp3.. then search for converters to make an .aau to mp3 and stuff like that.

If you really want to continue downloading legally, I'm sure there is probably some converter that you could download, but that's just a lot of work. You could do what most people do, and just download music as you please, using torrents, or other programs such as limewire or bearshare.

Damien...I feel you pain.. or I used to anyway.. I finely purchased an Ipod. but if that isn't the direction you want to go, I used to "Ask Bob Rankin.com". Hope this helps...Careful downloading music from free sites. I contracted several viruses that ultimately damaged my hard drive... I learned the hard way..In the mean time.. Check out Bob's answer>>http://askbobrankin.com/convert_itunes_to_mp3_format.html

Thanks! I'm not going to buy an iPod for several reasons, not the least of which I'm kind of pissed off at the way apple does this kid of crap. In the future I will probably download from amazon or somewhere else. It's just that right now I've got an iTunes gift card to use up.I just bought a Samsung phone with a 2 gig mp3 player. That's what I will be using. Not an overpriced, overrated iPod.I checked the site. Looks like it should work for me. Thanks a bunch!
