I'm not going to beat around the bush I'm really scared of my city right now. Guys, things are so out of control. I'm not worried anymore I'm scared. I only have one more year... it seems like a long time. I really want to get out of here. And I don't want my family to stay here. I don't know what to do. I'm tired of living in fear.... I feel like crying I'm so scared.

Umm..

This sounds bad. Has anything in particular happened to you or people around you?

My friend and I almost got jumped last Friday. We were stupid but we had no choice. It was late at night and we had no other way but to get home but on 3rd avenue where most of the drug busts happen. On Saturday, my other friend and I were going to the movies to see TDK and a couple of guys kept trying to mess with me and when he went to pull me away they remembered him as "the fool that actually threw back" in a food fight at school. And they threatened him so we had to leave but then they started following us and one of the guys had a beaded choker symbolizing how many people he "killed". 3 people including a cop got shot 3 blocks away from my house last week. My best friend's cousin was gunned down. He's barely alive. And there's a new gang initiation that we don't know what but 5 girls between 16-18 have been raped recently. And when my mom was driving home there were a group of guys blocking the street. She honked and most of them moved out of the way but two of them refused to move and just gave us this really dirty look. My mom must not care and she told the guy "remember cars don't bleed". And the guy really had this weird look on his face. It was creepy. And when I was walking to the pizza shop there was these guys yelling and cursing at some old Italian man and threatening him. Bastards. And then they had the nerve to try to talk to me and saying the nastiest things I've never heard of. The old man saw me and was like "don't let them bother you". But it bothers me more than I wish it did. I hate my city. I hate it so much.

Talk about puppies or ponies or something. I need some encouragement before I lose my mind.

Get into some serious MMA, and start kicking the shit out of any guy who messes with you. Also pick up weapon defense training. Most of these so called "gangstas!" can't fight for shit.I've found that in my own personal experience. They throw wild haymakers and turn their guns sideways. Any experienced boxer or fighter will beat them easily with technique and precision.

Quote:Most of these so called "gangstas!" can't fight for shit. i don;t many that attack in numbers of one...even with guns. usally (i think) they go in packs. don't care how big some one is.. one can't beat a pack. i had my own dealings wiht "gangs' tho they arn't like the ones abi is talking about. i mean.. i dk. the "gang" i had to deal wiht was just a group of friends that if you pissed them off you get to visit the hospital for a while. i dk. i just knwo 1 can't beat many. no matter how well the one can fight or how big the one is.

Thanks Rad and Caleb it really does help. Quote:Get into some serious MMA, and start kicking the shit out of any guy who messes with you. They used to actually have a reason to beat/kill you. Now it's just cause they feel like it.

Westchester New York

I wish i could think of something helpful to tell you Abi, but I really can't at the moment. I grew up very close to where you live but left many years ago. It sure sounds like it's changed for the worse in that area.Does your mother own your home? I know you're leaving in a year, but I was wondering if there is any possiblity of moving to a better neighborhood in Westchester or the Bronx for her sake as well as yours. I know how hard that can be in your area.

From Wikipedia:According to 2006 HUD data, the median income for a household of one person in the county was $67,555 and the median income for a family of four was $96,500.[1]Doesn't exactly sound like da hood, ya know, but crime is everywhere. Unfortunately, many people grow up in these conditions, move to a "cleaner" city, and end up getting shot or killed. We should see things in perspective, the US is far better off that many other countries. But I know what you mean.

Sexpert, what you've said is extremely misleading; it's one of those things that is technically true I suppose, but meaningless. I'm from Westchester county, and I can tell you it is an area of remarkable contrasts. Parts of it are as Abi described; parts are dirt poor ghettos and extremely dangerous; and parts of it are the among the wealthiest areas anywhere in the U.S., full of millionaires (such as Scarsdale). Unfortunately Abi lives in a bad area.
There is a huge difference in safety according to where one lives. Moving away from an area like that definitely increases one's personal safety.
-
I know what I said might seem misleading, but unfortunately it can happen. Of course, I am not doubting the dangers that exist there. I just think those things "could" happen anywhere. You're right though, I look at things backwards. It's the only way I can cope with this world.
-
Thanks guys I feel much better now. I forgot something but I was reminded so I think I can handle my situations much better. And Sexpert I do live in a nice house. It's not big and expensive but it's nice and cozy. The area is a big contrasts from the houses. You can have a nice house and live in a bad area. But literally, walking from my house to my best friend's house you'll pass 6 different gang hangouts and she lives about...7 blocks away from me. I'm urging my mom to move when we get out of here. When the teens start disrespecting their elders and shooting cops like it's a sport it's time to go. The average house where I live has at least 6 people living inside. They're not that big.

Thats true. There's parts of my Tri-city area that I wouldn't be caught in after dark... because I'd be terrified (im a wimp ).. and theres parts that are extremely wealthy.
