i got my wisdom teeth out yesterday, and during the previsits, the lady asked if i smoked, and i got an hour and a half lecture on why cigs were bad and told me i shouldnt smoke one for 2 weeks before or after cause it would lower the white blood count in my mouth. the whole thing seemed like a anti smoking rant. according to her, it could cause the blood clots to fall out and be painful. if i were to smoke a bowl a night do you think the sleep and pain aid would not be worse the risk of having a blood clot fall out? anyone know the chances of that? the lady said they were extremely high, but she was pretty fucking biased so i dnt know what to beleive.

Wisdom teeth and weed

I work in a dentist office and yes it's true, smoking within 48 hours after a tooth extraction can cause Dry Socket, which is when the blood clot falls out. Dry Socket is EXTREMELY painful, worse than a toothach. Heed the warning and do not smoke for at least 2 days.Never heard anything about smoking before an extraction, though I understand the point about smoking hindering the healing process. But when it comes down to it it's more important not to smoke AFTER an extraction.

Ok so in my opinion you are not supposed to be smoking weed at all but that
s you
re perogative. Smoking before you get a tooth extracted is not condoned because there might be a chance of unnecessary bleeding. Also smoking to soon afterwards can reduce the W.B.C count and can also hinder the process of healing,am a whiz at biology so i know these things. -
thank you, my surgeon told me not to smoke 2 weeks (14 days) before or after which sounded quite...excessive...thanks for the response

I'm just going by how we treat our patients and the restrictions we give them. I agree two weeks does seem very excessive, but he might have reaons behind it.
