Obama will be shot and replaced by Biden prowar, And racist who says shit like (when asked why Iowa schools perform better than DC schools): "There's less than 1 percent of the population of Iowa that is African American. There is probably less than 4 or 5 percent that are minorities. What is in Washington? So look, it goes back to what you start off with, what you're dealing with...." or "You cannot go into a 7-11 or a Dunkin Donuts without an Indian accent."
-
None of this is the president's direct fault. The president has relatively no power.
You want someone to blame, blame Congress.
Republican or Democrat, they're all out to screw us over for their own benefit.
Party system = no system.

wow, what a great piece of American propaganda, i'm ever so glad the they have mastered the use of sarcasm. They'll be moving on to word puns next, watch out. :P
-
How then do you explain the many political talking heads who use the same lines and are not attempting humor?
-
Of course I'm not talking about those lines word for word. But there are plenty idiots out there putting out crap messages like Republicans don't want a cure for AIDS, Republicans care more about corporate bottom lines than the health of citizens, Republicans don't trust women to make decisions about their own bodies, Republicans are in favor of separate but equal, they want more minorities in prison, are against hybrid fuel technology, etcetera and so on.That video was not produced to be comedy. If you can't tell by that website that they are pushing not just a rational liberal agenda, but an extreme liberal agenda, then I can't help you.
-
Personally, I saw it as a way of pushing a liberal agenda using comedy.
-
Republicans care more about corporate bottom lines than the health of citizens, Republicans don't trust women to make decisions about their own bodies,How the hell do you classify these two points as "crap messages?" They are fundamental, essential principles of the Republican party. (I would agree with you on the others, except that I've basically never heard anyone say any of those things.)
-
Quote:
Republicans don't trust women to make decisions about their own bodies,
Quote:
they are fundamental, essential principles
This gets into the argument of whether it's "her body" or an unborn kid's body, which can both be interpreted differently. Just because a group of people interpret the right to life with a different definition, this doesn't mean it has anything to do with that statement.
The idea of "Republicans are wrong because they don't trust women" and the idea "Abortion is wrong/right" aren't anywhere close to one another.
This is the ignorance of generalization.
And yes, if you think that "Abortion is wrong" = "Women are dumb", then I am calling you ignorant. Use some critical thinking.
Otherwise, if you realize that "Republicans disagree with abortion." does not equal "Republicans don't trust women to make decisions about their own bodies", then good job, you've overcome the ignorance of political generalizations, and you deserve a muffin.
*To disclaim, I hate both parties, and I think the bi-party system has ruined the country, and I blame both Reps and Dems equally.

What I don't feel I can do is make decisions for other people who feel it is right for them.
That's exactly where I stand when it comes to abortion. I disagree with it, but who am I take make choices for other people?
-
Most of what you said just misses the basic point and is rather extraneous. (I have no interest in starting a major debate about abortion per se. I think Rad expressed it pretty well.) Part of the problem is that the initial post I was responding to taked of this issue in terms of "trust" which is less important than the question of power or control. One of the things that too many people seem to find hard to understand about this issue is that the question of the morality of abortion vs. the question of what the law should be about abortion are not identical questions. Call it "trust" or something else, I don't care. The Republican platform does not want women to have the possiblity of making their own decisions about this according to their personal beliefs. That's the point.

Of course there is a better way. Full, uncensored, unbiased sexual health education. It should be done in schools and it should be as important a class as any other. It should be done when kids are starting to hit puberty, about 11-13. It should be protected from the ignorant attacks of parents who are stupid enough to think that their kids won't have the same urges as everyone else does. Everyone must be given a proper education, it is a universal human right. To deny children this, especially in regards to something as important as sex, is inhumane and sick.
Or you could just hand out Promise Rings and pack the walking, talking bags of hormones into schools together, hoping that they won't figure out what their hoohoos are for.

Exactly, which is why in the EU, abortion is considered a medical service. One of the reasons why I was considering voting Yes in the Lisbon Treaty (Ireland was the only country that actually got to vote on the treaty, I think I'm actually gonna start a topic about this in a minute) was because the EU could overrule the pathetically weak Irish government in matters like abortion. Irish women have to travel to the UK for abortions, UK clinics actually have special programs for temporarily housing Irish women who have to travel for the procedure. Its absolutely ridiculous.

Nobody said ugly... just that you wouldn't want to fuck them.
