When I was looking for a car my main focus was trying to find a Peugeot 206 although it may be a little too European for you. The models made later than 2002 are the best. For financial reasons I ended up settling with a 2000 Citroen Saxo. Not the fanciest (or manliest) car in the world but it does the job well.

well see the problem with that, is A: the availibility in America, plus the whole "you guys drive on the wrong side of the road" thing

I just bought (last week)a 2005 Kia Spectra5. It's the 5 door hatchback version. Very sporty and fun and great on gas. Good car it is.

how much did that run you? and what would you say it gets for gas mileage?

Get a Skoda.Really underrated car that's awesome value for money. One of the safest cars on the market, plus it's got brilliant fuel efficiently without removing its balls. Seriously, those little turbo diesel engines have guts.

If your not to concerned about what your driving consider an old people car. You know Caddy, Buick and so. You generally get a lot for your money. For a used car, more often than not, they're generally well taken care of, have low miles and haven't been sitting in traffic for hours on end. People forget that it's not just about the miles on a car. Worse than a lot of miles is if the car has been sitting in traffic for most of it's life.On top of that you can often get a V8 and the V8s in like a Buick Lucerne or Cadillac DTS get fairly good gas mileage. Mom's DTS, sport package, averages around 24 miles per gallon the Buick I think is a little better still, both have the same engine. As long as you take care of that V8 it's going to generally far outlast any V6 or smaller. A Northstar V8 should be good for at least 300,000 or 400,000 or so miles. When I took my car into the Caddy dealership to get the hail damage fixed they had an '04 De Ville with 7,800 miles for $16,900. Nothing wrong with it at all. It wasn't flashy or fun or young looking by any means but would have made somebody a good car.

Fortunately for me, I live in a rural town so my mpg runs closer to highway than city. The Spectra5 is also rated 5-star for safety, which is a selling point for a lot of people. I almost lost an eye last year to an airbag, so I don't get as excited as most (rational) people do about that stuff. But safety is good.My only complaint about the car is that I can't get my XM hooked up right because it has the little rooftop antennae on it. But that's minor, no?

well, went out and got a car with my dad yesterday, 2003 ford focus ZTS, great handling, engine sounds great just in awesome condition.the record check showed pretty regular maintenance,no accidents or really anything bad. the body reflected things perfectly on every side so im pretty sure it hasnt been repaired. the rear window motor wasnt working and the center console wasnt latching but theyre going to fix them for free and i got that in writing. the color is awesome, i hate basic red on cars it looks to weird, but this is called infra red, not really deep blood red but darker then basic, makes the whole car look so sleek. and the small spoiler just sort of completes the car.came with a 6 disc cd changer, sound is just great in that car. It's a manual and it shifts perfectly, takes a lil getting used to going from a long stick in the S10 to a short throw shifter with shorter range gears but im quickly getting the hang of it.its got 77000 miles on it, picked it up for about 7 grand. and im going to finalize the deal yesterday, they just couldnt get a hold of a few people yesterday and theyre trying to get a better rate although ill be paying it off early (asked both the salesman and the f&I guy if there was a penalty and they both said no but ill make sure to ask again tomorrow) all in all im extremely happy. and would be happy to have someone take pictures of me washing it in daisy duke shorts and a polka dot bikini top
