Hi Guys!!
What do you think of THIS?! Is it a good idea? Would it deter others from doing the same thing?!

I think that's ridiculous for just 5 bucks. If it's just $5 she should've just had to pay for it then that's it.
Depends on what crime was commited
Paying a fairly high fine would make her think twice about stealing again. She stills 5 bucks in gas & then has to pay a $500 fine - I bet she'll think twice before she does it again. The sign thing works I geuss, but I doubt it did her any good. A thief is a thief. I dont care if they still $5 in gas or 5 million is gold - you're still a thief. In the olden times that cut a thief's hands off after so many offenses. Not suggesting we do that now, but a thief is one of the lowest pieces of trash on this eartn, IMO. WORK and EARN what you get!
Eh.. Stealing is easier
That was on our local news the other night. I think it is justified. This area has a huge problem with people stealing gas and she definitely learned her lesson. She's lucky she didn't get her license taken away. That's the norm. Did you hear about the lady that got arrested for eating a candy bar before getting on metro? Now that was not right.
Did you know that in the middle ages if you stole a horse that you would get your hand cutt off and you were branded so that EVERYONE knew you were a horse thief?
Yeah, it was the medieval times but what's my point?
Back then a horse was a mode of transportation from Point A to Point B. Stealing a persons horse back in those days was the almost the same as stealing gas now. Just think..that's gas YOU could've put in YOUR car that YOU would've PAID for, but she got off with standing on a corner holding a sign saying she stole gas. Now everyone knows she's a thief. Everyone's going to be watching when she goes to get gas now. How embarassing is that? But ask yourself this...would you rather have your hand cut off or hold a sign?
yeah i heard about that one.i think her arrest was fair because she was told that she wasn't allowed to eat in the metro and she continued to eat, and then she resisted arrest. those two thing at least could put anyone in jail.
what part of the middle ages? i just finished my summer course on the middle ages, and for stealing oxens or horses you had to pay a certain fine depending on whether it was in the countryside, village, or a city
that's not right.how about community service or something more fitting.is humiliating a person for doing something they did a good way to nurture humanness in a world where it is much needed.i think that's sadistic.i've seen worse though, not to detract from what i perceive to be a demeaning act by a small minded individual.over here a girl was painted in silver paint for alledgedly shoplifting.like proper PVC.they then made her walk home like that naked.i was in a store where the owners "caught"some guys shoplifting, they took them to the back and started whipping them with a belt.everyone in the store carried on like usuall, xpept me. i suppose they deserved it though, right?not!the law should not to be taken in hand by anybody other then law enforcement officers.especially in cases when there is no immediate threat or danger to anyone.
i just reread the article, the fisrt time i never read it in full(i'm tired,it's 2:30 am)i'm even more astounded that that was a punishment meted out by a court.that's sheer stupidity.
You know...I can't find it. I read it somewhere while on vacation with my grandmother. First offense you got put in the stocks. Second offense you were branded. The third and so on you got stuff cut off. I've got to find it. I know it's around here somewhere. This was in the medieval times though I believe.....scratches head (probably known as the dark ages...)

Hi InSearch!!
I understand what you're saying - but then - IF the only 'risk' to stealing something was having to PAY for what you stole - then it's worth the risk. Don't you think?
What deterant would there be in that?!

Hi Powerlifter!!

You're not alone in thinking that.. but I wonder... WHERE would she GET that $500? You yourself said, "a thief is a thief". Thieves lurk in the darkness. They do their 'thing' when YOU are not looking. The last thing they want is to be SEEN. Because of that - dragging them out into the light [so to speak] is a VERY appropriate punishment. [as far as I am concerned]

You can lose your license for a year in Kansas if you steal gas... should've just done that.
