Best places to live in the US
-
I say San Diego, hands down.
But, you are asking a question that can only be answered by someone whose lived several places within the States. Some would say Hawaii.
-
What type of places are you looking for? Small towns, large cities, or suburbs?
-
I know that where I live has been ranked in the top 5 places to live in Money Magazine for the past few years. I prefer suburbs, since they have stuff happening around them but don't have all the crap that comes with living in a city. You don't feel like you're cramped into a tiny space nor do you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. Also has a nicer environmental aspect than cities especially.

My favorite places where I have spent time and might consider as homes...San FranciscoRoanoke VA

I'll tell you a cool place: Bowling Green, Ky. Seriously. It's a small city of about 53,000 in south-central, ky. It's 2 hours from Nashville and 2 hours from Louisville. It's a university town, so it has that flavor. (Western Ky. Univ. - a great school.) When I lived there, it had more restaurants per capita than any city in the US. Got a good skate park for the kiddos. A mall. Good people. And the cost of living is pretty low, relatively speaking.
-
Oh yeah...Bloomington, Indiana is cool as well.

i love Florida...... destin. but since i haven;t been any states but around the south i can;t really say much.

Theres some really good info here, its fantastic to be able to here about places that we dont get to see on TV or anything of that sort. I was thinking I could move to the US once I've got myself a degree. I'm attracted by the idea of living in a big, expansive country with both large cities and great wilderness; plus it would be nice to be taxed less. I like medium sized cities, like half a million to a million and a half inhabitants, but with ready access to countryside. Have to be somewhere with a good music scene aswell. One of the problematic (but exciting) things about the US is theres so much to choose from.

Do people there have whats constitutes a "southern accent"? cos I always thought that was really hot on women hehe
-
Okay thanks for the info man. But not to worry, I'm not gunna choose my destination just based on the accent.
Yeah I'm not sure why Florida is the location for choice for British immigrants. A friend of mine said it was very tourist based, and that doesnt really appeal to me.
-
Wow man ya must have done alot of travelling in your time, its great to get an image of so many places.
Yeah many Britons do move places just for the sun it seems. Better weather would be great but its not a priority for me. Actualy according to wikipedia St Louis has considerably greater yearly rain than England, but I aint too fussed about that.

I think number one for me would be Carmel, CA. It's beautiful and has a temped climate, with plenty of shit to do... at least when I was there in the middle of the summer. Here's another link. The only down side is I would have to sell the all my land holding is Oklahoma to be able to afford 40' by 130' lot there. It is fuckin' expensive. I love the Vieux Carre in New Orleans but would never live there. It's to fuckin' hot even in the winter. When I was there last, 2004, they had their first dusting of snow in a 132 years. If you want in the music seen there's no place better I've been. I've not been back since Katrina.Florida was good as long as your on the water. Take two steps inland and your covered in lizards and sweat form the humidity. Fuckin' little lizards where everywhere. Nice beaches though.Northwest New Mexico is great just for the scenery, not a lot to do there that I know of though... other than hike and bike. For biking though, Moab Utah is the best.Colorado Springs and that area is great. It is getting a little to big for my taste. There's never a lack of something to do. Plus you have the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. I go there every October. When I was a kid we summered out there. Manitou Springs, a suburb on the mountains, use to have a great bohemian flavor but it seems to be getting replaced by million dollar condos. I still love it but it's just not the same as when I was young.

I love the lizards in Florida! I wanted to bring one back to Cleveland, but they are fast little things.
-
I don't dislike the lizards... I just dislike the humidity that came with 'em. Then again when your walking down the sidewalk and one is squashed every few steps it gets to be a little much.
-
Poor lizards. I will gladly take humidity over 20 feet of snow anyday. Remind me again of why I live here?
