Tomorrow evening I'm refereeing another roller derby bout. I love it but I get so nervous! My hands shake and I skate like a mannequin because I'm so tense and tight. I'm not uncomfortable performing in front of a crowd but being on roller skates I think makes it a lot worse.I do deep breathing, streching, etc but I can't loosen up. I can skate fine in practice but at a bout, there are hundreds of spectators plus I have 2 teams of girls that are relying on me to make good and accurite calls.any suggestions?

Stage fright and nerves
-
i have really bad stage fright too. an acting coach gave me this suggestion:
think of three things that make you smile that have nothing to do with rollerblading or sex (sex distracts you) (mine were the memory of my first cig, GB packers/football, and south park). then find little things and physically put them in your pocket. i had kenny mauled, a pack, and a mini foam football with my old jersey number on it. before going on stage just pat your pocket and feel the shit inside and think about what your things. when you get nervous physically pat your pocket and go football, cig, south park, and then smile. i hope this helps.♦

that's pretty interesting, thanks!btw, we're not on rollerblades, we're all on old school quads now I'm thinking of what I can put in my pocket

i know what your talking about iv spectated havent played. do memories from different parts of your life. shit like in hary potter that can drive the mentors away strong happy works best. i went easy way out and it worked fine but the guy was never happy with my three.

it all went well.I'm afraid that I was too preoccupied and/or too lazy to assemble the 3 items as you suggest. Fortunatly, there were a ton of my friends in the crowd as well as my son (my best friend picked him up from my ex for the bout)Unfortunatly, an ex girlfriend (theeee ex girlfriend) was sitting right in the front row. No worries though, I was focussed on my job. I was shakey but I skated my heart out. The bout was great, the Montreal girls were tough and nasty! The after after party went till dawnI love derby

Yes...concentrate on what it is you have to do and forget about everything else. Paying attention to what the girls are doing is number one. Make believe the TV is on or something, and that's what's creating all the extra noise. That's what I do when I play guitar in front of a crowd...forget about everything else. You could set an atom bomb off and I wouldn't even notice.

I think you just need to go peel her ass away from that all to time consuming job.The man who waits for happiness to come to him may never find it. There my own little fortune cookie moment.
-
If I could just toss her over my shoulder and make a run for it, I would in a heart beat!!
