Can you lie in those forms, to get free lunch in school? I mean, obviously your not supposed to but what i'm asking is, is it really easy to lie to get free lunch? I've been trying to tell my parents to fill those forms out for me so i won't have to waste so much on school lunch. But my dad keeps insisting that we lie or else they won't accept it, but i'm not sure.

Free lunch at school?
-
would you really feel good about dipping into the limmited resources allocated to those who are less fortunate than yourself?
-
Dunno where you're from, but in the UK you have to submit evidence that your family doesn't get enough income to support lunches. If you can, and are willing to falsify that sort of information to steal lunches, then you're pretty much the scum of the earth. In my own opinion of course.

unless he has to pay for it himself out of what he works for and his parents don't pay for it... in which case that's pretty uncool of the 'rents now isn't it?

Well okay look, right now my family is in a tight spot, but i don't know if were actually in debt. I got fired from my job about 2 weeks ago because they just couldn't give me hours(and since i'm a teen they fire me first), and i haven't been able to find a job because no one is hiring due to the economy. My mom got her hours cut too, i'm not sure how much though. My dad makes good money about $700 a week, but he pays most of the bills and mortgage and whatever, but anyways he never has money. Recently my mom recklessly spent more than $3,000 on tickets for me and her that cost about $1,700, for us to go on vacation for Christmas. If i knew that the ticket was that much i wouldn't go, just to save money. So i don't even want to ask my parents for money, not even for lunch money. In my school the cafeteria went "healthy" and increased the cost of it's food. I'm the type of teenager who likes to eat(not saying i'm fat) but i like eating lunch. A good lunch that actually satisfies me cost $4.50, and that contains a small chicken wrap, a small cookie and milk. So that's more than 20 bucks a week. So i asked my parents if they can fill out that thing to see if i can get free or reduced lunch, and actually be able to save up which is what i've been trying to do. But my dad insists that we lie about how much my parents actually get paid or else they won't give me free lunch..

In that case $20 a week seems dear. What about buying the food and making your own lunch and bringing it in to school, it should work out cheaper. Is that a possibility?

If that's all true then means-tested benefit will show that you don't have the money and you will be granted whatever benefit you are allowed. They don't just look at your dad's wage slip and say "Oh he earns loads of money you don't need help". They work it out properly. If they deem that there is enough income (after deductions), then chances are that there is actually enough money to pay for adequate lunches. When I was given a meal allowance, we were literally getting no usable income, and were being threatened with eviction. It was a case of if I didn't get the benefit, then I would have starved. Once we had more money coming in, the benefit ceased, but only because we were deemed to have enough money to pay for a packed lunch to school. A sandwich, a biscuit and a carton of milk should basically cost around £1.20 ($2) if done efficiently.I'm not gonna pretend I know how it works in the States, but that's how it worked in the UK for me while I was at school (this was about 10 years ago, mind - yeesh seems like a couple of months ago!).You realise where the money that pays for the lunches comes from, right? It comes out of working-people's tax. So when you're working and earning money, some of that money will be used to pay for other people's lunches. Now do you think it's fair that someone steal some of that money from you? Also keep in mind that they will have no sympathy if money is wasted.

I really don't have enough time to make breakfast+lunch in the morning. I think i'm just going to make my parents fill out those papers and see what happens.
-
Hows about you make it the night before, leave it in the refrigerator and just grab it and go in the morning?
-
That's another idea, but sometimes i'm so rushed in the morning i'll probably forget it.
-
Wake up 5 minutes earlier, make the first thing you do is go and put your lunch by the door.
-
Put a sticky note on the door saying "Don't forget your Lunch".
