I often hear that women think they are not pregnant because they think their get their period, or something like their period, so it never crossed their mind that they are pregnant because of that.Sometimes, I know you can tell you're pregnant if you miss your period, but then I heard if you have something like your period, aka spotting, that means you could also be pregnant, too, even if you do get something around the same time. So, my question is, can you tell if it's period vs spotting when it comes, or would you have to take a test, still?'Cause I've heard women say they didn't think they were pregnant since they got their "period"...I feel like I should know this considering I'm 22, but sorry if I seem stupid or ignorant =/.I certainly don't think I'm pregnant because they've always reassured me nothing got out when we did it/used protection, but I'm just asking this for information.

Period vs. spotting

I think there's usually a noticeable difference in volume. Spotting usually just means some spots, quite distinguishable from a full period. Only rarely would they be hard to tell apart.

This is called implantation bleeding. They say you should be able to tell the difference between a regular period and implantation bleeding, but I couldn't. See this thread

Oh, ok. So for you you just thought it was an early period? Like it did not come exactly on the same date as your regular period would have?

The first month came at the same time my normal period would have come. The second month was about a week earlier than my normal.
