I love my mother to death and Lord knows I always aim to please her and make her happy. She's been pushing me since forever to become a businesswoman or a financial adviser and run my own company or become an entrepreneur etc... making money and managing money is her main concern for me. I understand that she wants me to be successful and that's all gravy. But that's not really what I want to do. My stepdad wants me to work in medicine and become a doctor and what not and refuses to let me leave New York and wants me to study at NYU. BUT, I don't WANT to be a doctor and I don't want to stay in New York as interested I am in NYU.Really... I want to become a Crime Scene Investigator or a Forensic Pathologist. I've been studying Forensics independently for over a year and not just because of CSI and Forensic Files. I love studying Forensics and Chemistry and I'm writing a research paper on Forensics specifically Forensic Pathology or as some people know... the UNDERTAKER! I know it's kind of weird... me... an undertaker but... I mean I've dissected a pig and a frog, I've sat through operations and I've seen dead bodies during random crime scenes around the Bronx so I know.. ok no it's not the same thing but it's a start =p. My parents think this is a "phase" my passion and interest in Forensics but I don't think so. I really think this is what I want to do for a living. I know what's required and necessary. I've been studying anatomy, physiology, criminology, etc. I've even interviewed the crime scene investigators from the NYPD police station and the forensic pathologists from the county lab. (All for a vocation paper, though). So I don't know... What's bothering me is that they're not taking me seriously... like at all. It's quite annoying and very disheartening =(

Since you've looked into it, you probably know that forensic science work in reality is nothing like the portrayal on CSI: that forensic scientists don't interview suspects or solve cases (that is the job of police), and they don't wear designer clothes (rather pointless under a lab coat). Indeed, they don't go to crime scenes all that often. Most forensic work is routine analysis of drug samples lodged at the lab by police. It's also difficult to get in. A lot more people want to get into forensic science than there are positions. The application interviews are very tough because forensic scientists have to stand up to cross-examination in court - defence lawyers often see them as an easy target. However it is possible and one of my contemporaries at university has made a career in it.Although it is possible to study anatomy and pathology in a science degree, you would have a better chance of becoming a forensic pathologist if you got a medical degree. But if you want to become an undertaker, that would be a lot easier.

I say, that through it all, yes, you want to make your parents happy, but you want to make YOU happy too, right? So I say go for what you really want, and, not that I'm saying screw your parents, but, erm, screw your parents . It's your life in the end, and you should do something that YOU want, not what your parents want.
